The whole will-they-send-out-results-on-a-Saturday question had me wondering, so I went to the early decision thread from the last time December 15th was a Saturday (2012). I found that for that year, NYU’s decision day was scheduled on the 18th (a Tuesday), and they kept to it.

I think that if they are telling us it’s the 15th this year, it’s the 15th. It would be awesome to be wrong, though, and find out a day early haha

I saw something else in the NYU ED Class of 2017 thread I didn’t know was a thing - a couple different people’s school counselors got phone calls from their regional admissions officer about a week before decisions came out and were told early about their acceptances. Did you guys know that happens (…or has happened at least twice)? Was that just a fluke?

@okisaperson that’s a great point you mention. I actually know that NYU admisisons commitee finalizes their decisions approximately a week before the notification deadline (December 15). All decisions are typically made a week prior so financial aid award packages are made for the admitted students by the financial aid committee. The financial package comes with our decision letters online via Albert. So maybe it is possible to find out early… but I doubt it.

THIRTEEN DAYS UNTIL THE 15TH LET’S GO

New here, Stern applicant.

Super nervous for the 15th haha

Just wondering, what state are most of you guys applying from?

im in florida!

How strict is nyu with bowing ED for financial reasons?

@St678557, NYU itself says on its website “Early decision offers are binding, unless your financial aid package does not meet enough of your financial need to allow you to attend.” So it seems easy enough to get out of. I’m not sure if this as simple as you saying “you guys didn’t give me enough, we can’t afford it” or if there is some kind of way you actually need to properly demonstrate it doesn’t meet need given that they have all your family’s relevant financial info on FAFSA/CSS. They also tell you not to apply ED if you need to compare FA packages.

I’m a bit confused why you are asking ED financial questions and want to be chanced for RD (and I think most of the “chance me” are on their own threads?)

No school that has ED will make you demonstrate anything if you decide not to attend due to FA. Period.

@CU123 , well that seems a massive loophole in the system then if anyone under a full ride can basically say “sorry, can’t afford it” and go elsewhere?

I presume the offers a school makes under ED include some kind of internal calculation as to what % of those will withdraw citing FA.
