NYU ED Class of 2023

@futurenyugirl yeah, thats why I did not apply for FA, because chances go down and I dont wanna recude any chances. Also ofc people who dont need aid will have a higher change beccause that means the college gets more money and thats what they want.

@Divyansh201 AHAH, thank you. Hope we all get in !

sorry I mean reduce **

Not to freak anyone out, but uh the CSS (College Board Profile) was a requirement for NYU. So that’s probably why you’re getting that message. I don’t know if that means you are ineligible for admission, but when I asked them about it they said it was a requirement for all applicants. It is true that yes opting out of scholarships could heighten your chances. However, even if you opt out of financial aid/scholarships you still have to send in the CSS, according to my discussion with NYU, it is a requirement for all freshman undergrad admits. Maybe I’m wrong, but it’s on their website and I talked to an admissions counselor, I would send an email to check and make sure you’re okay?. I wish I could say I can pay 60,000+ a year for school just to better my chance ?

@eamonnw

I did a bit of digging and spoke to my counsellor. I should be fine. @Sgmom thanks for the confirmation.

“Our records indicate you have not yet completed a CSS Profile. Most NYU grants and scholarships are awarded with financial need taken into consideration, however if you do not wish to be considered for any NYU need-based grants or scholarships you may disregard this hold and do not need to complete the application.”

Yeah I think its only for scholarship. In the website it says:

Freshman Applicants: In order to be considered for NYU scholarship, you must complete all required applications by our deadlines.

We didn’t check yes for need based aid but sent the FA forms in anyway because both school counselors and almost all college info sessions said “even if you don’t think you qualify, send the forms in because you’d be surprised at what you might get”. Backed up by someone we know who ended up getting merit of $30k a year at another ny private school when they didn’t think they would qualify for any merit aid! Though with NYU supposedly being very stingy not expecting anything haha

Also I may be wrong but I don’t believe asking for aid or not has an impact at ED level. From what I understand it comes more into play in the final decisions for the admittance pool, which happens during RD, where a borderline candidate not needing aid might get the nod over someone who does when they are trying to balance the budget for the year. Anyway even if you send the forms in, CSS asks how much you can contribute, when you give an amount more than the COA it’s obvious you’re not looking for need-based aid

Y’all know they’re need blind for US applicants though, right? So it makes no difference unless you’re international

Yeh I’m international so I didn’t check yes for the aid.

So nervous. 3 more days

@collegemaybeidk I didn’t actually know they were need-blind for US applicants. I thought they were “need-aware”.

Nope. For US applicants it doesn’t matter, you’ll be accepted no matter what your need if they want you. They don’t take that into account at all

Oh, they say they are need blind for domestic applicants but don’t undertake to meet full financial need for applicants. Um, ok. But apparently what that means by need blind is they don’t consider the financial aspects in applications for domestics. So ignore my second paragraph post 1066 at least for domestics! Sorry lol

Oh okay. I was just looking out for ya’ll just in case. Once again I wasn’t 100% sure. Thank god it’s not required.

I’m so freaking nervous. These days are going to go by so slow.

does anyone have any backups if they don’t get in? i dont lol yikes

How many ED 1 applicants do you think there are?

does anyone else’s FAFSA still have a red x but the part where it said “Status will update mid December” is gone? does this mean they haven’t gotten it and that’s the updated status?

I think either last year or the year before it was around 11,000 but thats for both ED I and II and all three campuses

Weird, I feel like no one got any changes this year. maybe bc they redesigned albert?
