NYU Fall 2017 Transfers Official Thread

@cjeong98 hey yeah, definitely not trying to kill hopes or anything, lol; especially since yes I am applying to Stern as well. Have you applied/been accepted anywhere else?

@SwellyBelly no, you’re fine! Don’t worry I didn’t take it the wrong way. NYU is the only school I applied to as a transfer

Oh yeah, when do you think we will hear back from Stern? I’m just dying to get an answer

@Chrismyke that’s awesome! I got waitlisted to Chapel Hill, it is a great school, I think you will come out to being a very prepared nurse. The only downside is it is not in NYC, but that’s okay depends on the person, too.

@bkonteh Heyyy!! And no, I just started college so this will be my first degree ever. I just applied as a traditional 4-year transfer student. Haven’t heard back either, but hope we do hear back soon! Best of luck!

@mpm1201 …thanks mate !! I live in New York, and one thing I realised during this transfer window is that, most of our NY universities and Colleges do not give as much aid as compared to other states. This is kinda absurd considering the standard of living here is through the roof. I got into some of the best colleges in New York State…NYU, Stony Brook University, Binghamton’s Universities Decker school of nursing, Hunter College which is in NYC with a very renowed Nursing program that rivals Rory Meyers, Long Island University, Mount saint Mary’s, and the college of New Rochelle. However, even though I would be out of state in my other schools, they offered me better financial aid packages than all the New York Universities. If financial aid is a big factor, my advice to everyone would be to try other top schools in different states, opportunities are every where not just in NYC.

@cjeong98 nice! I am really hoping this week we will hear. Based on what I’ve been reading, if we don’t hear back soon we may as well just give up:p

Any idea why they wanna interview us? @Daxx121
I thought they wouldn’t interview applicants.

I heard hunter gives amazing aid though. I think Hunter/Baruach are the only NY state flagships with decent aid. Especially if you are honors or applied to their Ivy competitive Macaulay Honors program; In that case they give you free dorming, tuition, and an apple computer. I have been hearing that Hunter just renovated and expanded their libraries, maybe that is causing the decrease in aid for transfer admits? Also, NY state had just passed a tuition free bill for city/state public colleges so it is free I believe. It will start next year or now I am not sure when. This new bill may hurt the appicant pool for privates such a Columbia and NYU for the class of 2022 applicant pool.

@jasonyty12 …yeah…Hunter is great and affordable in terms of tuition but for people who may need room and board NYC is expensive. Works out great if you would be commuting. Room and board in NY is what really causes the problem. The newly passed Excelsior tuition free bill in my opinion doesnt help the masses. It ontly covers the SUNY and CUNY tuition which is currently about $6420.It doesnt cover other fees or room and board. Also, if one already qualified for Pell grant or and Tap, the person doesnt benefit from it as it only goes to reduce tution cost after Pell grant and or Tap. It would have been of real value if it actually went towards the total cost of attendance. As it is now, hard to see exactly who benefits from this. Perhaps people doing second degrees or people who have exhausted their Pell and Tap grants. It sounds great but i dont think its that great at all. Tuition is already free for a very very high Majority of people in SUNY and CUNY schools as pell and Tap more than covers all tuition.

As things are now, getting into the Top SUNY and CUNY schools is super competitive because they are cheaper, so the masses would still have to settle for other private schools and have no way of benefiting from it even if they qualified.

@Chrismyke yeah I wish I would have applied to more out of state schools…oh well :/. If you don’t mind me asking how was LIU’s financial aid package did they offer grants as well as loans. If you don’t mind sharing the exact numbers go for it, but if not answering the first question on its own is fine.

Does anyone know what the fees are in “Tuition and Fees”?

@mpm1201 …Liu financial aid package was ok but still with a high net cost. I received the Presidential Transfer honors scholarship for $15,000…$3000 Phi Theta Kappa…Pell…about $5920…Tap aba…$5165…in all about $29k in grants and scholarships bringing the net cost to about $25k left to be taken in in loans.

@lillyJ678564 …depends on every school and also the courses being taken…but it ranges from health insurance fees, ,
health liability, lab fees, exam fees, student activities fees, research fees,equipments/instrument fees.etc

sooooo i applied awhile ago (obviously) and i never submitted my SAT grades officially through collegeboard but they never emailed me asking for them?

@Chrismyke I think the room and boarding is free if you applied to the Thomas Hunter Honors program at Hunter, but you need to be in it after 1 semester and then apply, which might be a turn off in terms of attracting transfer. It is true, the room and boarding are god dam expensive in nyc. But I think it’s only a few thousands dollars more, schools like Emory, UCoon have rooming costing up to 9k per year. I think at hunter is 11k max with food and books included and nyu is similar or maybe 12k but with no food and books.

Congratulations @Chrismyke !! That’s amazing!! You have so many great options. If you don’t mind me asking, when did you apply and what are ur stats? I’m just trying to get a perspective seeing that theres not a lot of Meyer applicants on this feed.
@mpm1201 When did u apply??

And does anyone know the latest we have to respond by if we are accepted? I feel as though its cutting it close

@justsomename I’ve been looking at this thread for a while. You are the only other person I saw that applied to the photography program at Tisch. Just wanna let you know that I received my FA change this morning. Hope that’s a good sign. Good luck!

@Klow7 I submitted my application Feb. 20th for what is supposed to be considered part of the “priority deadline” for Meyers…the deadline for that was March 1st. How about you?

has anyone heard today?
