KhalilA:
All I-20 documents expire on May 20th, and the government gives us, international students, a space of 60 days to commit to a school knowing all college decisions are released prior to July 20th as it takes time to process governmental documents in renewing the F-1 student visa.
So let’s do the math here.
The longer a school takes to release your decision, the higher the risk in not obtaining a renewed student visa, which will result in losing your visa and getting sent back home after years of hard work.
Also as @larosa2 mentioned, I have been accepted to USC & USD, but I’m still waiting to see my chances at NYU because it’s my dream school. So, my I-20 remains at risk ?
So don’t blame any international students for being extra anxious, because unlike you all, we will get sent back home.
Bless ??

Hi,
Just gonna throw this out here (again)…I don’t know how old some of you are, but you all sound really young (20s) and very anxious/aggravated which is understandable.
As an older member (31), I have to say, reading half of the responses on here (asking for Zoom status meanings, check marks on applications etc) in addition to basically HARASSING the admissions office at NYU - it’s just not okay.
They said from the get-go that it would take until mid-June to receive decisions, constantly bombarding them with the same questions that we already know answers to isn’t going to speed up the process AT ALL. Rolling admissions processes typically take this long to sort through, especially during a time like this! And for some of you all who are not aware of the protests/riots in NYC - it’s also detrimental to workflow as well.
Lastly, for those on F-1 or I20 Visas, it is not the schools duty to renew them and you cannot hold a prospective school accountable for a visa expiry when you all were well aware of the expiry date. Having other options is SUGGESTED, please do not penalize a school because you were solely relying on renewals based on a rolling decision. That should be well THOUGHT OUT IN ADVANCE. I’m speaking as a former student, I am speaking as someone who has worked at a private university in LA.
Putting blame on NYU because of a situation that is out of their control is not helpful to them, not helpful to us who are following these threads. Stop calling them, stop complaining that they are taking forever to decide. Either be patient or accept another offer.
As someone who is turning 25 this year, I can tell you that I am NOT holding the school accountable. I’m trying to explain to them that it is NOT our fault that WE the international students ARE STUCK in this country due to CORONA VIRUS. We can’t go back to our country because if we do WE WON’T BE ABLE TO COME BACK DUE TO COVID-19.
I am trying to let them know how it is affecting US the Students who are NOT from here.
Second off all I am not harassing nobody. I’m just stating facts. It is indeed the schools duty to renew the i-20. The “I-20” document is FROM THE SCHOOL. Not from the ambassy or whatever.
Thank you. ?
They may or may not admit you. It is only at the point they give you an offer, and that you accept it and enrol, that the i20 issuance becomes their “duty”. It is totally not their fault that an international student that started at another college has visa renewal problems caused by a pandemic.
Not blaming anyone for being anxious. The anxiety is perfectly understandable. However, if your deadline is July 20, you’ll know from NYU well before then. Thanks for elaborating on that deadline.
thanks for letting us know this… I am really thankful to u!
anyone know if its possible to be accepted without seeing the COA breakdown? because so far pretty much everyone that got in has seen it
haha true, maybe this is why we’re not in the first wave of a major acceptance lol.

Where can I see COA breakdown, in Albert? I’m not sure if this means something.
yes its in Albert under financial aid
what does even COA mean? i don’t even see it under financial aid
less than 24 hours until our (probable) decisions! good luck everyone.
@tyrarya it means Cost of Attendance
This is how you check to see if you can find your COA:
NYU Albert > Financial Aid > Financial Aid Links > Financial Aid Links 2020-2021 > Estimated Cost of Attendance
@freshman35 Its definitely possible, people have been accepted without being able to see COA. Some applicants said they were only able to see it after being accepted.
any portal changes for anyone?
when tike does COA usually appear? and if it doesnt, does that indicate a rejection?
@freshman35 as a few others have said, it doesn’t mean a rejection as some have shown up right after acceptance or even a few days after! don’t lose hope on just this minor thing
my zoom status changed from member to member-affiliate
no changes for me. getting worried now
