Students,

Please be advised that the Undergraduate Admissions Office at New York University considers it a serious offense to have students abusing technology in this way. There are two issues here. First, students who have been provided personal information posting this information on-line in a general forum. And second, other students pursuing information which they know has not yet been made available to them.

There are a number of ways that our office can indeed verify the identity of students who have posted on this site and we certainly can access information about who may have already activated a Net-ID prior to receiving a notification letter from our institution. Individuals can anticipate that these actions could potentially have serious repercussions with regards to their application to our institution.

Should you have questions regarding this matter please be encouraged to contact our office at 212/998-4500.

Why should NYU’s glitch be held against the students who are anxious. I think that is reprehensible that any representative from the school would say that.

There has been no “glitch” in our system. What has occured is that students have attempted to utilize technology that has not been made available to them to access an admissions decision. Again, this is something our office takes seriously and if you consider it “reprehensible” we would be happy to discuss it further with you.

I feel extremely remorseful for doing this, now knowing that it is inappropriate. I will definitely call the NYU admissions office because I did not realize just how inappropriate this is.

I don’t think any of the kids here feel that what they did was wrong. They are anxious and crazy. From what I have seen on other boards, kids do this all the time. No school official has threatened them. I would love to discuss this. please pm me.

To update on my last post, I just called the admissions office and spoke with two different counselors. I cannot be sure as to if activating my account will have a negative result when it comes to admissions decisions quite yet (they said it was more offensive when students were trying to access this page 3 weeks ago, but this week, it’s less of an issue). I would STRONGLY advise everyone not to do this—it does in fact abuse NYU’s technology system and I feel ashamed.
