NYU Shanghai

Hey I got a message about my interview on the 23rd. I’m a white male from Texas with moderate grades. My interview went really well. A lot of laughs and jokes. It lasted 45 minutes. How much do interviews matter?

What message did you get about your interview? I’m confused - did you get the message before or after your interview, and what did it say?

That’s great that your interview went well! I can’t say for sure how much it plays into the admissions decision, but a good interview definitely goes a long way. After all, it’s in place for candidate weekends.

Oh I meant for my interview. It basically just requested to talk to me. On the website apparently only competitive candidates get interviewed. Is that true?

Oh yeah before your interview - yeah I interviewed for Shanghai, too. Who interviewed you, by the way?

I think mine went well too - not 45 minutes, but it went about 5 minutes over. And yes, only competitive candidates are interviewed, and I think a good interview like that goes a really long way.

It was Mike or mark. I will have to look at the email. What about you?

Oh yeah I just interviewed with a woman from my region - I think it went really well. I hope so, anyway. Hey, have you gotten an FA change?

FA change?

^info here

It says award access not available. What does that mean?

Yeah that’s the same as mine. I think you have a good chance of getting into Shanghai, and so I think that just means that Shanghai applicants have not been fully processed yet or something. Did you put Shanghai as your first choice campus, or your second?

It was my primary one. Ya the guy said that they were reviewing them all next week. I don’t have an astounding gpa though, but my counselor wrote about how I have progressed, and the only time that I did badly was when I had no home. So I hope that my special story helps

Are you ED1?

Hey that’s like me! I don’t have like an astounding GPA and my SAT is only okay, but I had a weird story that interrupted my education.

What were your reasons for wanting to go to Shanghai? I mean it’s not everyday a white kid from Texas wants to go. I’m adopted from China, and so that’s part of why I want to go (part - not nearly all). I’m just curious why other people want to go. I’m the only person I know.

And yeah I’m ED1 with Shanghai as my primary.

Hey and so your guy said they were reviewing all applications next week meaning this week? What else, if anything, did he say about the application process/what they are looking for, etc.?

Where do you currently live? And it’s because I love Chinese culture. I also want to know what it feels like to be an immigrant. Everyone always assumes that I am the same as them because they are Christian, white, and upper-middle class. I was very poor and I am Baha’i and I get treated badly because people think I’m in a cult.

I live in California. I’m adopted from China, but have never been associated with Chinese culture. Not really - that’s why I want to go. Crossing my fingers.

That’s a great reason, and I can see why they want you so badly! I mean honestly I gotta say, a 45 minutes interview seems like a shoe-in to me, but then again…that’s just me.

So he said that they are reviewing it this week - any other info gathered?

Not really, but it is all I can think about. I love that it is new and still growing but I can’t gather any more information because it is so new! I hope it’s good because if I was competitive enough already then I hope that it pushes it over for me

I think that a 45 minute interview is just…yeah I think you have nothing to worry about.

I love that it’s new too! I mean it frustrates me that there isn’t as much date so I can speculate pointlessly about whether or not I’ll be accepted though.

My interview lasted about 35 minutes, but most people’s lasted around or less than 30.

Well I think they will release it the week after next like around Dec. 12

Yeah I know for sure admissions decisions are going to be released on December 13th, 5pm EST - says so on Albert. But still…ahhh long wait.

hi everyone!
I had my interview long time ago and i think it went pretty well except that my webcam chose not to work that day haha
i don’t know where to start but to start with, Hi everyone! :)
