NYU Spring 2018 Transfer Thread

@Isingh1347 what was the exact amount you received. I myself have a $0 EFC also. I live with a single mom who makes $9,000 a year. I’m hoping for some grants and scholarships. I have a 3.77GPA so I’m guessing I’ll get some merit based scholarship. I got accepted to CAS so I’m hoping it will be different considering you applied to a different school. I’m praying for my out of pocket to be around 20-30K A YEAR!!!

@catherinesc88 Basically yeah. All of my aid is in the form of loans. I called the financial aid office and a very kind financial aid officer told me he was gonna have them run through my FAFSA again because I should at least have gotten federal aid. And yes, I am still an independent.

@edcam 0 in terms of scholarships/grants and about 35k in loans. My family made 16k last year and I basically got no aid. And it is nearly impossible for someone to get merit based aid for NYU so I wouldn’t count on that. Any aid you get would be need-based or grants. Plus, people tell me Tandon is one of the more generous schools when it comes to giving aid, but based on my financial aid I find that hard to believe and tbh I don’t think CAS will be any different, but who knows? Maybe I’m just the outlier.

@Isingh1347 what state are you from? I’m from NY so I’m hoping they take that into consideration. I’m hoping for something good!

@edcam Also from NY :stuck_out_tongue:

@Isingh1347 what was your GPA? Something has to be wrong. You cannot just receive loans. The school has to give you some type of grant.

@Isingh1347 I’m nervous now. Usually they give merit base and need blind… I should sit down and pray. I’m sorry to hear this though. You must be pissed ASF!

@edcam Oh yes. Sorry I didn’t mean to make you panic lol. It seemed pretty obvious when I called the financial aid office that there was a mistake in the my aid so hopefully I get enough so I can afford to go. And all my stats are on page 1 of this thread if you wanna check it out.

@Isingh1347 when did you receive you admissions letter? I received mine last Friday and I still haven’t received my Financial Aid email!!! How much longer?

@edcam I also received mines last Friday. You’ll probably get yours pretty soon. Probably within the next two days.

I’m sure a mistake is exactly what it is, @Isingh1347. They’ve messed up on my documents multiple times now, it’s kind of frustrating. They even got my major wrong…

tandonians, any updates?

Nope.
NYU offers aid at need basis not merit basis

LOOKING FOR A ROOMIE

Hi guys! Accepted CAS for Econ this Spring! Just committed this morning after getting my financial aid at 1:40am (freaking weird time to be sending out emails but whatever). Anyway, since I you can’t apply for housing mid year (correct me if I’m wrong) I’m looking for someone who will also be transferring in at the same time to get an apartment together with just for this term (January-May or June). If its 2 of us, we can get a better place and actually be paying less than room & board!

Also, any recommendations on websites/forums to find apartments?

Definitely would be looking for a place around WSP so no Tandon kids unless you’re okay with commuting.

@washingtonsqpark Yeah… this year is a mess. I know some people who also applied and NYU still hasn’t received their transcripts.

@WolfgangNYU Congrats!!! I did also get accepted to CAS for politics, but I still haven’t received my financial aid package. I believe you can still aply for housing; although it’s may be limited. But if I do get a good financial aid package and they have no dorm space, I would love to have a roommate! Btw, how was your financial aid package? Was it terrible? What was your EFC? Mine is 0.

@edcam Congrats to you too buddy! yeah my financial aid package was mostly options for low rate loans, but I did get a few thousand from CAS on a scholarship. Luckily I only have two years left (first 2 were at CC so no debt there) and my loans will be still half of what everyone else’s are! Are you committed yet or waiting on aid?

Hey! I was accepted into CAS as well. Waiting on my package to submit my commitment, but I’m interested in getting an apartment together. Also a CC transfer so it would be awesome to room with other transfers.

@lorenzolefevre @edcam Lets do it gentlemen! haha I did find out that for spring transfers housing is actually guaranteed, you just have to deposit and commit before you can submit your housing forms.

I will do whatever is cheapest haha. @WolfgangNYU what were you stats? I hope I get a good financial aid… my mom literally makes $9000 a year. But yes, I’m just waiting for my package to commit. I go to a CC too. But I have one more semester left before finishing my associates but I want to transfer already. If I don’t get a good package, I will jut stay and finish my 2 years! But I want to go to NYU already so haha.

Has anyone who had the financial aid changes in Albert end up not getting accepted?
