NYU Spring Transfer 2020

Does anyone know if it’s hard to transfer to NYU spring semester as a freshman?
I’m miserable at my school, having a ton of problems and the school doesn’t even have the major I want… Overall, I just know this school is not the right fit for me and sticking it out isn’t going to change it. So basically I want to transfer schools in the spring and would love to know if anyone has heard of any successful NYU freshman year transfers. Thanks!!

Hello, I’m a spring 2020 applicant coming from San Francisco State University.

What would my chances of getting in be? Furthermore, what would my chances of getting good financial aid be?

Major: Biology
Background: low income, gay, asian male
HS GPA: 2.8 uw 3.14 w (Upward trend)
College GPA: 4.0, 56 units. After this semester: 4.0, 70 units
SAT/ACT: not submitting

EC:
Volunteering in a hospital
Attended dermatology grand rounds at UCSF
Lab Research
Attended Philosophy conferences
Writing
Photography
Conflict mediator (high school)
Boys and Girls Club volunteer
Familial Responsibilities (handling finance since parents aren’t fluent in English)
Assisted peers to fight against ICE in SF (high school)

Awards:
3 Scholarships and 1 grant for research and academic success
Third place for Beckman Scholars Program
Dean’s list all four semesters (soon to be five)

Letters of Recommendation
1 from Biology teacher
1 from Chemistry teacher
I was in the top 1% of both of their classes, and got a 99% in both classes.

Essays:
Both 8-10/10, had them looked over by people who go to Yale/nyu/columbia and they’ve said they were good
They cover my background and why I got poor grades in high school, and how I persevered in college and succeeded in a college environment. Furthermore, they discuss why I want to go to nyu and transfer (the prompts).

I’ll be applying for Spring 2020! I’m a 22 year old Native New Yorker and military vet with an Associates Degree (3.8 GPA) hoping to get into CAS as a Math major.

I just submitted my Common App for NYU. Does anyone know when NYU contacts you with all your application info/Albert Login/etc?

Hey there! I’m applying to Gallatin as a junior for spring 2020. I’ve been on a gap year since last fall, but I completed my first two years of college at a top LAC.

Not gonna specify my concentration in the interest of retaining anonymity but it combines philosophy, political science, comparative literature, and film.

Background: First-gen Latino Jew with a multinational upbringing
HS GPA: 3.2 (went to a very competitive northeast high school)
College GPA: 3.65, 60 credits (rising trend. Dean’s List after freshman year)
SAT: 1380. Took it once cold (and hungover) in high school - not sure if it’s worth submitting.

EC’s:
I founded a youth environmental education nonprofit abroad with my best friend who goes to Princeton. It’s doing well so far but hasn’t fully taken off yet.
Commissioned to write a biographical article for a relatively famous painter
Co-wrote a short film that was recently featured at the Brooklyn Museum
Accepted and studied at a prestigious creative writing summer program
Worked as a student journalist covering the migrant crisis in Europe
Interned for the DNC
Got a philosophy research paper published in an undergrad database
Interned as an undergrad researcher at a law firm
Philosophy department representative at my university

2 recs: from my philosophy professor (who was recently featured in the New York Times) & screenwriting professor, also kind of famous (she used to work for Coppola).

My overall GPA and SAT are pretty average for NYU, but I’m hopeful. I can’t imagine living anywhere other than New York at this point in my life, and the opportunity to curate my own course of study is a dream.

(For all the helicopter parents here on their children’s’ behalf, my username is a joke)

Admissions Decision dates from prior Spring transfer groups… hopefully we can continue collecting data for future applicants.

*** A CAS transfer applicant reported receiving an email regarding an admissions interview on this day.

I am Chinese. Toefl:99. SAT:1410. HS GPA:4.0. College GPA:3.618 (3.72 without sociology) with one dean’s list.
I am founder and president of a student finance organization which has about 100 active members.
I am a value investor with a recorded average return of 18.7%.
I partly solve one county’s poverty problem in china

I just want to know if I have the chance to get enrolled in NYU. I apply for CAS Econ. I want to transfer mainly I like to live in NY city.

Would not applying for financial aid increase my chances for acceptance? I don’t really expect to get much anyways.

@corndogtruck1 if you’re domestic, no - admissions is need-blind.

How do you report midterm grades to nyu?

@loverose4565 I’d assume you just go to the documents section and upload a pdf of your midterm grades. They should appear on your course history list from your current institution.

Did you get a request for midterm grades? I haven’t heard anything back yet.

@dan0543 no i didnt yet but they are waiting on my transcript, so i was thinking does it mean i also give them my midterm grades.

Does NYU spring transfer have higher acceptance than fall transfer? Just wondering

@transfer2020 I actually have the same question

@hilareolas I think you’re in really good shape, your college GPA and ECs are really good for CAS, even if your highschool grades were lower it’s clear you’ve done a complete 180! And NYU can actually be very affordable for low income students so don’t frett.

@TransferNYU2020 I’m a Tandon student and I really wouldn’t transfer here from northeastern. Given you’ve founded a start-up, you could make a really good case for stern (which might I add a 3.75 college GPA really isn’t considered low). If you’re able to, rank stern as first and tandon as second, and apply to other business schools as well. Also the BTM program here really isn’t the same as a Business major and management minor. Hope everything goes well!

If I am currently a freshman in college who also applied as a high school senior, will they look at my application?

Is the instructor evaluation form mandatory for the application? I never submitted one and it has not come up on my checklist.

@corndogtruck1 didnt they require to have one rec letter from your academic teacher?
