Oct 6 SAT-will it make Early Action at UVA?

S13 wanted to take SAT one more time and felt he needed better than a 2230 to be competitive since we are from Florida. He does have a 35 on the ACT, but we figure he needs a high SAT as well. He last took the SAT beginning of Jr. Year, so we are hoping he can score higher. He plans to make Early Action Deadline.

Those scores come out Oct 25th or 26th, and the early action deadline IIRC is Oct 31st, so I don’t see how they wouldn’t make it.

Thanks, I hope you are right!

Also, my D took the SAT in Nov and I’m pretty sure it still got looked at for her early admission app last year

Don’t forget to read the application instructions! This is covered in the testing section!

The October test is the last recommended administration for EA.

Dean: Since many EA students are deferred to the regular admissions cycle, I imagine some students could benefit from later scores???

Those scores are excellent! I doubt a point or 2 more will make a difference. Waste of time and money, IMHO.

I honestly don’t know the equation between a 2230 and a 35, however what is really important, and what UVa will be looking at from what I understand, is not the total or composite, but the section scores. If the 35 is comprised of fairly equal scores it is an excellent score. UVa does not prefer the SAT over the ACT. There’s absolutely no reason to take the SAT again to try to get an equally good (or better) score in that format if the breakdown on the ACT shows mastery in all sections (which it probably does, it’s hard to get a 35 composite and be low on a single section). What UVa consistently tells you is to send all of your scores and they will consider the ones that are statistically the highest. They are not trying to pull you down with scores, their system automatically pulls the highest.

Thanks for the encouragement! He did already register for the Oct 6 test, though. I suppose it will build character, this admissions process!
