October 2011 SAT General Discussion

Oh also, was the tone for the nuclear waste passage Caustic or Vehement? I chose caustic but I’m not sure what the answer is…

@tooomato

It was like “movies had stock characterizations, admirers found it ___ despite ___ characters.” ‘formulaic’ means stock pretty much so that was the best choice.

oh i got attracted too!! YESSS

Does anyone remember the one with “the southern gothic… differed from… in emphasizing x over y” anyone else put “in emphasizing”?

i put vehement. caustic was my second choice but it came off as more of a strong, impassioned argument than critical.

The emphasizing one should be experentalb

Math was challenging.

All in all, I think I missed fewer than 5 each for writing and reading and 10 for math. What would that make my score?

Regarding the sweater and scarves problem, was it asking for the chance that it would be wrong or right? I put 1/5 as the answer…but I see everyone else put 4/5 so I must have misread the question.

Yeah, for that one I was sort of torn. I mean, he did give a list of reasons of the environmental harm, but it didn’t really seem passionate enough to be considered vehement to me. You could be right though…

Does anyone remember the other choices for self-centered… Or what the question was?

@cyber, it was the chance that the sweater and scarf wouldn’t match

for the 4/5 one… It’s asking for the probability that he would get a wrong pair

can someone please predict my M and CR scores really quick ? :)

Math - minus 3 grid-ins, minus 6 multiple choice
CR - minus 7 worst case scenario

thank you so much!

This thread is mad depressing…

Was the math experimental section the one with 16 problems?

You guys sure the math was harder than normal? The 20 quesiton and 16 question non-grid part were pretty easy for me and I suck at SAT math… the 16 question grid in however felt brutal and I wouldve died if I hadnt run into some stuff in my late night/car ride cramming. lmao

Also, what killed me was the cylinder question. I was in a geometry room with posters of aera formulas EVERYWHERE, but i didnt have my glasses and so… but hey at least I can say I’ve never cheated on the SAT!

No, experimental is always between section 2-7, I believe. The last 3 are never experimental.

EDIT: Wait, the 16 question one with the grid-in? I only got one grid-in, so I don’t think that would be the experimental one…

My guess is (I could be completely off):
CR: 700-ish?
Math: Maybe a little under 700.

@Interficio
The Cylinder problem… you had to look at it from a different perspective. You weren’t supposed to use a formula for surface area. The SAT writers gave you a hint in the question, by saying the cylinder was made of a piece of paper. That means, it’s just a rectangle but curved into a cylinder. So basically, you used the diameter given to find the circle’s circumference. That circumference was the length of the rectangle, and the height of the cylinder was the height of the rectangle. You just had to multiply it. I don’t remember what the answer was exactly, however.

f**** the SAT proctors, they ruined my day. I was on section 6 or something like that, he took my test, and told me I started the section too early or some **** like (which I didn’t). 15 minutes later, he gives me back the test. He told me to continue the test, but wouldn’t give me extra time. How the f*** do I complain to CB.

wow…how early did you start though?

nooby: that’s exactly the kind of critical thinking I unfortunately lack. :/

I didnt start early, he was just flippin buzzing because I apparently circled one question when he said Start Now. He gave me the test back because he knew he was clearly wrong to do so. BTW he was african american?? what do you expect?? JKJK
