***October 2015 SAT (US Only) Thread***

the cycle of life continues: some will pass, some will retake

cries

I did… a lot worse than I expected. I haven’t gotten this low of a score on the writing section since before I started prepping. Ironically, most of my extracurriculars relate to writing as well…

CR: 800
M: 770 (one stupid question)
W: 730 (Essay: 8; MC: 76/80)
Composite: 2300

Time to retake and study again! Hopefully the December vocab was easy as well–I really lucked out this time.

//I felt super bad today when everybody was talking about their 2370s and 2340s. Whoopee.
//I wish I weren’t Asian and I wish I didn’t go to a competitive high school. That would make life a lot better.

If i take the December SAT, can the scores still go to UCs???

@littlehappy At all the centers near me it’s full for Nov. and I’m taking SAT II then, I’m gonna make one last effort in December.

@zitherplayer AFAIK you can’t self report them for obvious reasons but just send them to UC’s/CSU’s after you get them and it’s no problem

Has anyone not gotten their scores yet? I’m in California and it still hasn’t come up. :frowning:

@tonystarkofwinterfell I really don’t think increasing your score will help you man. A 2300 is already good enough for top colleges, and you should spend your time elsewhere.

Umm…really, a 2250+ is not worth retaking.

You guys are all obsessing way too much over standardized testing. Competitive admissions only use the SAT and ACT to see that you are capable, you essentially pass the initial academic screening. After that, it comes down to your extracurriculars, essays, and recs. A 2250 is not that different than a 2400, could be a matter of 3 or 4 questions. Once you hit 2250, even a 2200 as long as you are in the Middle 50% for each section, it’s honestly not worth a retake. Spend that time building up other parts of your application.

@rhubarber I have the same problem

@neoking From my school, the average SAT score for students accepted to Stanford is a 2350. It’s a 2380 for Brown. A 2390 for Princeton. Hell, it’s even a 2310 for Berkeley (and a lot of people get into Berkeley. like, a lot.). I’m Asian, so I’m held to higher standards than most students; I don’t have a 4.0, so my SAT score is the only way for me to show that yes, I can compete in a pool of perfect applicants (because I just so happen to be in the class at my school with all the geniuses). I’m retaking because I know I could have done much, much better on the writing section. I know my grammar. I don’t know why I did so badly. Also, I could have gotten an 800 on math for sure. I got a 770 because I misread a question.

I’m in the same boat as the people who don’t have their scores yet. I had to have an irregularity form filled out for me because I accidently started putting in the answers for section 3 in section 4, so I basically had to continue bubbling as per my proctor’s instruction. This must happen quite often, so I don’t see why it would cause my scores to be canceled or anything. Hopefully they’re working things out and I’ll get my scores in less than a week. But your scores all look pretty good!! Good job to everyone!

sigh I didn’t even have anything strange about my test though, which is the weird thing… :frowning:

So I know somebody else posted that they got 790 on the writing section with 76/80 multiple choice and an 11 essay while I got an 800 with the same score breakdown. I’ve read that, since different time zones get different essay prompts to prevent cheating, the essay scores get weighted differently - I can only assume that more people scored lower on my timezone’s essay prompt than on the other prompts, leaving me with an (extremely) generous writing curve. I’ve got no other explanation (I rechecked my score so many times after hearing that because I was so worried that CollegeBoard had made a mistake and that my score was about to drop!)

Did anyone else feel like the CR curve was really easy? I skimmed through it and took little naps to be ready for math because I had an 800 CR from the June test, and I’m sure I made some mistakes, but I still got 800…

The math curve was absolutely brutal though.

@merlion: Everyone is different. I thought the math sections were a joke…I slept through most of the section and still ended up with an 800. Critical Reading, on the other hand, was a struggle for me, and as such I only received a 700. It’s all about what section you are comfortable with and which section you are not.

@merlion lucky you, I wish I had the problem of getting 800s on CR lol. I got an 800 in math though, so I guess we have the opposite problem lol

With a 2290 SAT score, and everything else looking solid, I’m really happy that I’m a Hispanic, being honest.

I thought I would get a 2300s.
But End up with a 2150 (730/800/630).
My unprepared SAT writing score last year was 670. This year is only 630. I expected a 700s on writing at least.
i really don’t know what happened and why I did so badly. Felt really really bad.

I got a 2080 and I am happy with my score although I did want much higher. I am proud of my achievement from getting a 154 on PSATs sophomore year to getting the score I have now. All of you here are extremely qualified students, don’t fret if you didn’t do so well. Be optimistic and hope that we all go to college where we want. At the end of the day, that is what matters most. Go Class of 2016!! Good Luck! Best wishes to those who are retaking!
