Me too.
But I would have no problem shipping it off to auction! Doesn’t hurt to know the value of what you’ve got “hanging” around.
Ditto! Imagine my reaction when I opened CC while drinking my morning coffee, and this is the first thing I saw! ![]()
Hers are all prints. Maybe lithographs? I do think one is signed by him.
Donald Roller Wilson is not from Arkansas but has lived in the state for 60 years. Taught at the U of A for several years, I believe. I think his having been, “local,” to the state for so long increases the appeal of his works here. They do not appeal to me. DRW has original works in some major museums.
I think I’d written upthread that when we asked ds if he knew of anything he wanted from mil’s house (back when they did the sorting in mid-December) he said, “Not those creepy monkeys!”
He wanted nothing. He’ll get the football memorabilia of his grandfather’s that dh took if he wants it when we are gone. Sil’s ds took lots of furniture. Sofa, secretary, bookcase, patio furniture. Will also be getting her W/D and refrigerator.
Does he need a desk and tipsy table? How about a chair?..any chair.
I’m sounding like I do when trying to get my kids interested in my stuff…any stuff!
You apparently missed the earlier tutorial on this artist!
While I came out in full support of the first Wilson piece, I fear this one will give me nightmares. Yikes. I’ll leave it at that.
It looks great @Hoggirl !
My neighbor’s apt at her continuing care community is pretty packed…but so was her house. So if it doesn’t bother her, it doesn’t bother me!
I’m the one who keeps bringing up the monkeys. I’m obsessed with them. And the fact that SIL wants them. Some of the other stuff I actually like and thing the house is a lot less cluttered than I thought (too much furniture, for sure). I’m especially impressed with how clean the garage is and would like some of those tables (just not ALL of those tables)!
I do think MIL and Bob will get rid of a few things once they see how much is there. I’ve been moving and getting ready to sell my mother’s house, and I’ve moved a few things I’ve already gotten rid of. Moved a lot of spices and have already toss a lot of them. Moved some of my fabric (I am a hoarder of fabric) and have already sorted and designated some to the thrift store (from where much of it came).
@Hoggirl do you think MIL and/or Bob would be willing to get rid of a few things IF they knew that someone in the family wanted them??
I understand that no one does, but maybe a spindly table or two comes way of a family member….and then heads to Goodwill when they can’t find room for it….. ![]()
Dh and sil and my dear nephew already did that back in mid-December. I mean obviously mil got first dibs on what she wanted to bring to the CCRC. Of the things mil brought, I think the primary interest of sil’s among those things are just the monkey pics.
ALL the extra stuff is Bob’s. Every single spindly table (and desk) in there was there when mil got there. She brought one end table and one bachelor’s chest. Idk if sil is interested in the other furnishings she brought (a buffet, the white chairs, bedroom stuff), but they will all be in use by mil at the CCRC. It’s Bob. Bob’s the problem because he won’t get rid of anything. He needs to be asking his kin if they have any interest! Mil left her spindly tables (and two desks!) to go into her living estate sale.
Maybe an ex-wife now needs a tipsy table or two?
Ok…that merits a “why”?.
Sounds like the signed one may be worth a bit.
Maybe the exes were glad to dump both Bob and the spindly tables! ![]()
Ok, I showed the pic of the furniture worshipping the rug to Mr. B, and he called it “Furniture Stonehenge.” ![]()
It looks like a lovely apartment, but just have too much stuff.
I would actually ask the MIL to put some extra furniture in storage instead of selling them. What if the marriage doesn’t work out and she needs to move out?
I was stuck in the apartment because of the weather. This thread kept me occupied.
She neither likes nor trusts Bob. I don’t know if she wants them for whatever financial value they may have (they really aren’t going to be worth that much no matter what they are, because they aren’t originals) or because she loves them and wants them in her home or because just doesn’t want Bob to have them.
No specific personal property was listed in the pre-nup. Sil has said she’ll have to drive to the CCRC and take them off the walls herself to get them.
They got back yesterday. Mil texted both dh and me. “Love what you’ve done with the house, Dil. Living room might need a bit of reorganizing!” Also texted about reimbursing us for tipping the movers which we handled.
Hopefully, that means they will cull some furniture in there as they do their rearranging. Though, ‘reorganizing,” doesn’t really imply eliminating to me. I will be curious as to how many tiny tables they reincorporate from the garage. Hopefully not too many!! No idea when we will be over there again. I honestly don’t expect to hear much from her unless she needs something. She does need to get her key back from us as what she gave us also has a fob to get into all the buildings at the CCRC.
I’m not going to elaborate, but there was a tense phone convo between sil, mil, and Bob yesterday before they left her house. Bob and mil were having issues disconnecting the internet/TV equipment that needed to be mailed back. Mil texted sil who then called and tried to walk them through it. Bob kept interjecting/interrupting. Some words were exchanged. But the most telling part happened after the phone convo ended, but mil didn’t hang up and sil heard their conversation continue and what Bob said re:sil. Again, not elaborating, but it was not good. ![]()
Oh dear. That does not bode well.
Well…hopefully they will go away again and you will need to water the plants or something. We need to see pictures after their reorganization of the living room. ![]()
At least she was appreciative! That matters.
That’s unfortunate. So the phrase “Bob is a butthead” probably was applicable yesterday. ![]()
