At least your H can keep tabs on your MIL’s spending @Hoggirl. That should be some comfort.

Mil texted sil and me after they boarded for their very early morning flight to NY.
She texted sil and Friend C (from the Temecula trip) tonight that Bob and she had an enjoyable afternoon in NY. Went to the World Trade Center Memorial and environs and had a nice Italian dinner. Glad there is some communication. Before sil forwarded the post-dinner text to me, I told dh that I’d hoped we would have heard something and said, “I guess they are just wandering around NYC.” Dh replied, “Hope that works out for them.” 
They board and sail tomorrow. Really hope she posts pics on FB.
I feel like we’ve been waiting on this dang trip forever

Well, sounds like at least she’s reaching out to SOME of the folks she wants to communicate with. Glad it doesn’t sound like any drama has occurred yet.

I promise I won’t constantly post pics. I seriously doubt we are going to hear anything of substance from her during the trip. I expect, “Having fun!” Etc

Actually, if you hear anything about the trip that would be of general interest, I’d love to hear about it. It’s a trip I’ve seriously considered.
Actually, maybe if you asked her for advice for someone who’s considering the trip in the future you would also get to hear more about the stuff you actually want to know!

Well, Bob’s hand is resting on the railing. The bigger question is where MIL’s hidden hand is…
Bob’s hand is on railing behind MIL though, so the “look” pretty “close.”
I hope they have a really fun trip, whether they end up together or not. At their age, it’s a trip of life time. I give her credit for having the courage.

I always look for an open hand placed on the body of the woman. Bob’s hand is on the railing, but at his age, he may be using the railing for balance. It could be evaluated either way.

We have had no communication since they sailed. She bought a WiFi package, but we are unsure about whether she has texting capacity. We can see that she has liked and commented on FB posts. She has not posted anything, however. Sil has a Samsung, but mil and I have iPhones. Sil sent an individual text. Sil is going to message her through FB. I may send a separate message since we both have iPhones

Good idea. In a group text message, if one in the group has a phone other than an iPhone, the iPhone folks on WiFi only (no cell service) will not be able to see the texts or send group texts. So messaging directly or through FB makes sense.

Would you normally text her when she is on vacation? If so I’d just do what I would if she was traveling with friends or family.
Even if it isn’t the start of a life together she will have had a unique travel experience.

Yes, we all usually keep in touch (just briefly) when vacationing/traveling. Granted, this is a more unique situation with her on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic.
The sil’s Samsung phone was the issue. I should have realized this would be the case beforehand. We’ve now set up a group message on FB Messenger as of an hour ago. Not sure how interested mil is in communicating. She may be too busy having fun. Or she may be miserable and not want to admit it. How much she communicates will be up to her going forward, but she now has a free and easy way if she so chooses.
