Octuplets' mom already has 6 young kids at home.

This just in!!!

Local news says Nadya says Kaiser says…won’t release the babies unless she proves she can care for them…

^^^^^^
That makes me want to sign up for Kaiser! Good for them!!! BTW, is that legal?

“He says she says”… Kaiser said “no comment”.

Not only is it legal for Kaiser to do that, I think it’s actually required. If a healthcare professional suspects a child (or many childs!) won’t receive the care he/she needs once released, it’s their obligation not to release the child.

Since at least one attorney and one psychiatrist have filed complaints with the Dept of Family and Childrens Services re: concerns of neglect, its likely Kaiser is working in compliance with DFCS’s investigation and direction.

Well, I remember that when my children were born, the hospital made sure that each newborn went home in a car seat for safety. It was simple: no car seat, then no release. I would think with 8 preemies that Kaiser must have a social worker looking into the home that these babies will be going to. IMO, that is the responsible thing to do.

I have seen bits and pieces of her interviews. She makes it sound as if she had no choice but implant her embryos or they would be destroyed. I wonder if it ever occured to her to donate any of them to couples who are infertile. That would’ve been a truly selfless act , but she doesn’t seem capable to make any decisions that would actually benefit anyone but herself.
She shows no regard for her parents and her fisrt 6 children… I can’t imagine the thought that my father would put his life on the line by going to work in such a dangerous place , all because of my irresponsible behavior and decisions

I saw her Dad on Oprah yesterday and I wonder if Nadya is talking to him today.

He told Oprah that he thinks she has mental problems and than asked her to help. Oprah’s jaw dropped and she was obviously speechless.

I am sure Dear old Dad will be getting checks in the mail starting today. He came across very likeable and I actually felt pity for him…he is 67 and going back to Iraq next week to work to pay for these kids b/c he feels it is his obligation for the children. The doc told him, realistically there is no chance that these kids won’t need lifelong medical assistance and you could see that the Dad knew that too. Part of me would send him money, but than the other part worries that he will use it improperly. He openly admitted he spoiled her, and that is what worries me.

I also saw on the news too about the hospital. I am glad.

Did anybody see the video clip of a woman shouting at her at the gas station to get a job!

I think she just doesn’t get the fact that people feel when you accept money for assistance than they are upset that she purposely got pregnant with no way to support them. The Dad was also asked about the website she has created and it was visible that he was not happy about that

Link to video of Nadya and her mom. I feel so sorry for her mom.

NSM…get with the program, LOL…that video clip is so “yesterday” and was already discussed here. Just kidding.

Jym, it is my opinion that the reason either Kaiser or DFCS are looking into the case is not due to the complaints/reports sent by Gloria Allred or the psychiatrist (non-treating one) that were sent. I am sure the hospital has a social worker on the case and the 8 babies would not be readily released without certain measures in place. As well, I am sure that social services will be keeping tabs on this family wihtout the two complaints lodged by those who are not even directly involved with the family.

I don’t say this lightly, but those children should never be released to their mother. I hope optimal placement can be found and that the people who need to make this happen can find the strength to do it.

I certainly hope this is true, and not another one of Nadya’s inventions in her desperate search for sympathy.

Soozie-
This snipit from the article posted by blankmind in #952 should explain the role of the hospital social services and the Dept of family and cldns services, who work cooperatively in these situations. The fact that separate complaints have already been filed with DFCS , combined with the high profile aspect of this case, ensures DFACs involvement. Even if a complaint is found to be without merit, the system must at least open a file and investigate. They can’t just ignore a complaint filed, and the psychiatrist and attorney surely know that.

and for money and fame by the sound of her. I doubt a hospital would have the authority to choose to not release the children to her - but if the social services are involved they might. I just can’t see a good and proper outcome for this situation that will help provide for these children (all 14 of them) without benefitting this apalling womed.

In the meantime her lovely infertility Doc has another expectant Mom in her late 40s expecting quads, hospitalized for several months, with no medical insurance.

[Octuplets doctor has another patient expecting quadruplets - Los Angeles Times](Octuplets doctor has quads case)

jym, that is exactly what I meant. I feel that the hospital itself would be concerned about any risks for these babies once released and would have social services assess the situation. I just do not believe that complaints by people like Allred and the non-treating psychiatrist were the impetus for social services looking into things and making a determination. The situation as it presents itself…8 premature octoplets, with 6 other kids under age 7, with a single unemployed mom, let alone the publicity surrounding the case, would be impetus enough for this to be looked into before releasing the babies into that home, as well as oversight once they get there.

The thing is, that no matter what anyone thinks of Nadya Sulemon, the children’s needs are what will be of utmost importance and someone has to look after their rights and their needs. There will have to be some sort of assistance if the kids are to live with Nadya. While nobody wants to enable Nadya, it is the kids that can’t be left to fend for themselves and so I am sure that intervention is going to happen in some capacity here for the kids’ sakes.

I would hope that DYFS can step in, shouldn’t they be able to question the living conditions and proof that she has assistance.

The doctor on Oprah yesterday put it best, in its own way this is the purest form of child abuse. By impregnating herself with 6 embryos, she risked not only her life, but put the babies(that is what she called the frozen embryos) in jeopardy. She also has been negligent as a parent by doing this…she was hospitalized for months, leaving her mother to care for her children, including her handicapped children. I believe her mother is competent to do so, I am just stating she throw the children aside for her own personal need and or desire. That to me as a mother…revolting.

Bullet and I always wanted 4, we stopped at 3 b/c of a bad delivery…I turned to him during those moments and said if G*d gives us one more healthy baby I would never ask to be blessed again…I got it…I understood that children are gifts and not something to fill a “void” like she has stated

I suspect we are saying the same thing, sooze. Yes, the hospital social svcs will, as part of their protocol for management of preemie/hi risk/multiples, address appropriate discharge plans. That goes without say. And clearly they err on the side of caution and are also obligated to report to DFACS. My point is that, whether for pure publicity or not, the complaints filed by the psych and Allred require that a case be opened by DFACS, and did it before the discharge planning was in process for the babies.

OK we are beating this into the ground. We are saying the same thing!

My understanding is that for most, if not all, special-needs children, extensive early intervention is crucial. One of our neighbors has a child with cerebral palsy. The prognosis at birth was absolutely dismal. She started aggressive therapy right away - there were various therapists coming to the house 6 days a week, and she spent a lot of time working with her child, as well. As the child grew, he continued to have various kinds of therapy. I can’t even begin to describe the resources that were poured into this boy. He is now a teenager and, although there are limitations, he has far exceeded expectations. It took heroic effort on his mother’s part, and on his part, to get him to this point. I am assuming that at least some of Nadya’s babies will have some serious issues, and I can’t imagine that they will get anything near what they need from her.

My sister gave birth at 28 weeks and 5 days, her DS weighed 3 lbs 4 oz. She was on complete bedrest from 20 weeks. He was born with CP. he has limited use of his left hand and has been in PT since he was 3 mos old. They never accepted any funding or allowed him to be classified by the state or fed as handicapped, they paid for everything out of pocket. They elected this route so he was not labeled, he is 11 now walks with a very mild limp on his left side and is acutely aware of always exercising his left hand to reduce the physical appearance.

Our DS2 (our last child) has Aspergers, a highly functioning form of Autism, it has been frustrating and stressful to say the least for the last 13 yrs. I could never imagine sayingI NEED TO FULFILL MY DESIRE OF HAVING ONE MORE DAUGHTER while sacrificing his needs. As a mother, I can’t accept the fact that she put her need to bring in more children before the children that were already living. I love our youngest, he makes me smile everyday, but I also know that he is more capable of being able to have a self sufficient life because I didn’t have the 4th I always wanted.

SORRY, but I have no pity for her…even her publicist left her (I don’t buy into the death threats…I believe they left b/c of her attitude). Her parents are supporting the grandkids, but threw her under the bus…we need to question why? Gloria Allred offered her a home and medical assistance…why has she not accepted it? The hospital isn’t releasing the children…I can’t ever recall any other family Gosselin, McCaughey(SP) Dillon having the same problem, why? The doctor who implanted her is under investigation, but still to today the story has not become about him…why?

I can only see one positive ending for her children, and it does not include her. She is all about herself and her children are paying the price for her selfish issues

The best parent puts all of their needs, desires and wants behind what their child needs, wants and desires. Nadya Suleman has yet to learn that lesson. IMHO she is loving every second of this attention…if she loses these kids she will make it her life mission to keep the media on the story…not because she wants the kids, but because she is a GLORY HOUND
