I’ve posted numerous times on this forum about my difficulties in Math, which really effected my performance. I have overcome that, and I have excelled in my math, which Is fantastic. In any case…

I really want to apply to Mass Academy in Worcester MA, a pretty good math and science based school. The requirements for admission are pretty tough, and I fear like it would be a waste of effort to apply.

In Freshman year I was… demotivated. I didn’t try in any of my subjects, which resulted in many getting all B’s that year. All B’s. I was in honors science, but not honors math. I thought that math was really never my thing, until this year, a few nights before PSAT’s.

College math classes at my school are… a dead end. Because that I got a B in my Freshman year, I stayed on the college math track. Now I am in geometry, where my grade is the highest in the class by far (it shifts between a 93 and a 95), and my math teacher has commented that I am a little beyond the other kids in the class. It’s a mathematical dead end that I can’t escape from. This is one thing that could break down my application to Mass Academy.

As you can see, I have gotten more and more motivated as my sophomore year has advanced. I’ve had all A’s, and Biology has become my strength. However, I feel that my school’s science program is far too restrictive. Even though I’m in an honors level course, I don’t feel particularly challenged.
It was dumb of me not to try freshman year. I wish I could punch my old self haha.
Against me:
- Poor Freshman Year
- College Math Track
- Low standardized test math performance because of how little I have learned in college math.

Do I have a chance if I have a really great essay and do well on the diagnostic tests? The school is selective, and I assume some of you guys go to schools like this and know the type of students they accept.

Sorry for the rambling post!
