Brown adjacent??? More like burnt orange!
Brutalism really only in Revelle, Muir, Warren, Central Library, Third…I guess everywhere?
The funny thing was when I learned about UCSD back in 89’ I read how Warren College had so many trees and forests and it was a green college. Couldn’t be farther from the truth! Still enjoyed my time there, however! San Diego is a great city and UCSD wonderful school. Just wish my kids got in!
Virginia Tech is also burnt orage. And Chicago maroon. I agree that burnt orange doesn’t look brown or "brown adjacent "
At one point, I really wondered if my child was picking his top choices schools based on how much orange is in their color scheme (Clemson, UTK, Virginia Tech - but no Texas or Syracuse, so we don’t have ALL of them…)
He didn’t get in to UNC Chapel Hill, which I was kind of rooting for because (1) I like Carolina blue and (2) that is the color for his HS, so he already owns a lot of random clothing and accessories in that color.
100% this. I’ve posted my feelings about choosing a school that imparts beauty and grace along with its curriculum. The physical plant means as much to me as any other criteria.
To our son, not so much. Could you attend a school that looks like this? On a sunny day?
Sorry to break it to y’all, but compared to, say, Syracuse or Tennessee orange? Burnt orange is what you get when you layer orange and brown atop each other—you know, orange plus the burnt part.
The only orange out of your “orange school list” that is an acceptable orange is Tennessee. I actually love it when they wear it with the soft light blue that is a secondary color of theirs (I see it mostly with their softball team).
My daughter is at Virginia Tech. Loves the school, does not like the colors. I don’t mind the maroon, not a fan of the dingy orange.
I think UNC has the best color combo (older daughter is an alumna).
There is no combo like the maize and blue.
Go Blue!
Where is that?
I wonder how much the movie will affect people’s perceptions?
What movie?
My daughter had two issues - the dorms ( why do they show those dorms??? I saw half the tour group check out afterwards) and the shape of the campus. According to her, it wasn’t “square” , but was just a series of lines with each line further up the hill …….
True, true, my son checked out in advance the track team kit for every school we visited.
From the post about CalPoly SLO
The food at CalPoly SLO isn’t “not great” - it is really bad. They built a lovely new dining facility, but it is basically a collection of low-quality generic “fast food” establishments serving food super slowly. I couldn’t imagine eating like that for four years. The tour was OK, but eating in the dining hall sealed the “hell no” deal for our family. It went from a top 3 contender (on paper) to totally off the list after our tour and “meal”.
The dorm situation makes no sense…
I don’t understand why they can’t fix this issue. You should try UCLA dining. It’s a five star experience with an entire hall dedicated to healthy and often locally sourced food. If they can manage this, surely other schools can as well.
Food at UCSB is so bad as well.
Indeed, the food at UCLA is to be envied. My daughter lived on campus there for 2 years and loved the quality and the variety. We spent summers trying to mimic her favorite salads at The Study and dishes at B Plate. Now that she lives off campus, she sometimes mentions that a friend living on the hill (in the dorms) will “swipe her in” once in a while so she can eat there again. Who actually tries to sneak back in and eat dorm food? UCLA kids, that’s who. ![]()
Do most students live on campus and eat dining hall food for four years?
