Office Aid, bad for college apps?

So I have just received my schedule for senior year. Because not all my classes work out, I was put into Office Aid, and I don’t get any credit for this “class”. So does this look bad on college apps? I am taking 6 AP classes next year. Also, should I change Office Aid to some other wasting time class like Cooking? Would that look better?

Can you explain what Office Aid is?

But changing to a “wasting” class won’t look better. 6 APs senior year sounds rigorous enough to me. If there’s an elective you can take like Engineering Drawing or something like that, and you plan on going into engineering, it might be worth your time.

Office Aid is basically I sit in the office and help the counselors organize their stuff. Or I go deliver something to teachers from their office. I don’t get any grades or credits.

Can you put that down as an experience instead?

I think you should make it into community service. You are helping your school aren’t you? I don’t you should worry about it. Just explain it on the Common Application.

Yes, it looks bad for college apps. “Office aide” sounds like something that a student would do who was planning on going to a business school, not something someone would do who’s planning on going to a good 4-year college.

With 6 APs, you don’t need to take another difficult course, but could take a fun course like an extra PE course, cooking or something else that you’d enjoy, but that colleges wouldn’t calculate into your gpa. Most colleges do recalculate applicants’ gpas, and eliminate courses like Cooking, Phys Ed, etc.

I don’t know about him, but at my school PE is no fun at all and it’s unweighted so it’ll likely drag down his class rank.

I also got stuck in office aide in place of psychology. I told them I wanted to take a real class if I couldn’t have the one I signed up for and there’s only one AP (science) I can choose and to do so would mean dropping math and there’s a decent honors class, but it’s not offered at the correct time so I’ve got a big hole in my schedule and it sucks because the only things I can fill it with are classes I’ve already taken or stuff like “family development” that is pretty much going to be as useless as it is miserable to take.

^ Yeah, the only good thing about Office Aid is that it doesn’t do anything with my class rank. But most people at my school doing Office Aide don’t care about colleges that much…

I will ask my counselor if Office Aide can count as community service or experience. Thanks. :)

If you do use Office Aid as community service or experience, try to spruce up the title, like “administrative clerk at an institution for enlightenment”

;)

Office Aide might not even show up on your transcript. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t at my school. But I think it’s still better to pick up a fun elective.
