Official 2011 AP Chemistry Thread

In all, I felt that the AP Chemistry course my teacher runs was by far much harder than this test. I went through the test and had circled 10~13 questions to go back to, but answered about half of them correctly. The acid base free response killed me, as did the 2nd portion of the electrochemistry FR. Honestly, the hardest question, in my opinion, was probably the coordination complex reaction on the FR. I doubt the curve will be that forgiving, just like how many complained about the 2011 January CR.

?? i took Jan CR, the CR was sooo easy… i thought.
someone check?
1 equilibrium
2 mass?
3 ?
5
6
7 rate?

Acid and Base

Alloy of Silver and Copper (%mass/stoichiometry)

Electrochemistry

Reactions

Dilution (?)

?

Rate of Reactions

I found the thread for last year: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/924618-ap-chemistry-2010-study-thread-come-people-39.html

Judging by the reactions, people said it was so much easier than today’s…I feel so bad about this test. Meh, whatever. Can’t do anything about it now…

Last year everyone felt like the test was super easy at my school.

ooo shoot. i just realized i might have screwed up on the kinetics one :P

if i start off wrong, can i still get the points down the road using the rate order that i said?

Are we allowed to post the topics . . . ?
I feel like that isn’t allowed.

Can anyone hint at what was so difficult about the free response? It seems pretty unanimous that they were… crushing. I don’t remember anything that was that horrible though.

I mean considering the # of people who post after SATs…

  1. Acid and Base
  2. Alloy of Silver and Copper (%mass/stoichiometry)
  3. Electrochemistry
  4. Reactions
  5. Dilution (?)
  6. The molecule/lewis structure
  7. Rate of Reactions
    sounds about right

Guys.
Did you use a lot of the paper they gave you?
I only used like, one side for most of them . . . only 1/3 of the back side for like, two of them.
Did I not write enough?!

Does anyone else feel as bad as I do about this test?

@Caeadas: your hints

  1. Acid and Base (um the whole thiiing)
  2. Alloy of Silver and Copper (%mass/stoichiometry) easy-er
  3. Electrochemistry ok i thought
  4. Reactions i probly got 0
  5. Dilution (procedure)
  6. The molecule/lewis structure (reaction part)
  7. Rate of Reactions (its order and mental math to get rate)

Abrayo, they give you like 500 more sheets than you need. I wrote about 1-1.5 for each that I understood…

The thing that is so hard is the time! All of the questions are do able its just the time it takes to solve some of these question is ridiculous. I’m with Abrayo I didn’t use a lot of the paper either.

@Caeadas In my opinion, free response wasn’t so crushing that a 5 was out of reach. Generally, free response garners more points than MC because free response gives out partial credit, while MC does not. Overall, I think most people have trouble with reactions. They generally do not know what products to put (i.e. Do gases form or is it just an acid in solution? etc etc)

You guys seriously shouldn’t be giving hints like that.

@Bioboy:
Ohhh okay, man I was so scared that I did it completely wrong or something . . .
Anyway I’m guessing they give you more in case you cross out a lot of stuff or something?
I used a pencil though, so I just erased.

did anyone think the reactions were easy, especially the first one? (it seemed too easy to be true)

Everyone remembered that you do not dissociate compounds into their ions for a net ionic equation as a reactant if it says you added solid right?

@Abrayo:
I think they give it to you because they like wasting paper.
But did you feel bad about this AP? I’m so depressed right now…

everybody was freaking out about the free response, I took a released exam Saturday morning and found it more difficult. don’t worry they will always give partial credit and the multiple choice wasn’t too bad. all in all I think I did better than expected… and now I’m done with science forever (or at least in highschool)

anyone think the first acid base question was the toughest?
