emelegantt - how did you submit your ECs?

I tried to submit both my ECs and a personal essay, but it would only accept whichever document I uploaded last, but not two documents.

Suziechapstik:

I just typed up a resume with all of my ECs, awards, work experiences, etc and had my guidance counselor send it in with my transcripts :)

Very resourceful of you.

No such luck at my school. They sent the transcript electronically. In fact, I ordered it this morning and I already have confirmation that Pitt has received it. I’m going to check with admissions and see if I can just email the ECs directly. That is what I had to do for Purdue

S was accepted in the College of Arts & Sciences and the honors college. It took about a week from the time that the online message said ‘application complete’ until he got the letter today.

His stats:
GPA 3.69
ACT 34
School does not rank.
ECs: Not many because he works 15 - 20 hours per week and is captain of the robotics team, which is a year-round 8/week commitment (and about 25 hrs/week during the ‘competition season’)

He’s happy. Now we’ll hope for some scholarship money…

Comments: Honors College/full tuition- apply for chancellors

My daughter was accepted to the honors college, waiting on the scholarship letter. Application date 11/6, acceptance letter dated 11/18. This is her first acceptance, yay!

Is the Chancellor’s scholarship full tuition plus room and board?

no honors…too bad

electronblue, yes, the Chancellor’s Scholarship is full tuition, room and board, plus extra money thrown in for study abroad, etc. It’s a great package. However, the students have to compete for it, and the odds are slim: about 10-15 awards annually, and about 500 kids vying for it. You’re basically looking at kids with Ivy-level qualifications. These are the students that Pitt will groom to win Fulbrights, etc.

Still, the full-tuition scholarship is also a wonderful deal. That is usually given to those who score above 1450 on the SAT (M/CR), and maybe a 33 and above for ACT. (In some cases, I think kids with 32 ACT have gotten it, but not sure.) Room and board at Pitt is pretty reasonable, about $8,500 a year. I don’t mind paying that at all. Plus, if tuition goes up, as it inevitably will, the value of the scholarship increases. It’s worth $22,500 this year (both semesters, out of state).

There are also awards for $10,000 a year, bringing the OOS cost in line with in-state. So depending on what your student wants to study, Pitt can be a great choice. The school has a lot of strong majors and programs, a nice urban campus in a fun area of Pittsburgh, and big-time sports. My daughter has loved her time at Pitt so far. Feel free to PM me for more info. Congrats to everyone accepted! I give all of you credit for applying so early. Well done!

Comments: full tuition, honors college, conditional acceptance to GSPIA

I actually had a 32 on the ACT and got full tuition, honors college, conditional acceptance to grad school, and chancellor’s scholarship consideration. Superscored I had a 34, but I don’t think that mattered at all. Basically I’m just pointing out that a 32 is still within range for full tuition- I am an IB candidate though.

Also, I got the honors college acceptance about 3 days after general acceptance, and then scholarship award the day after that, for any of you who are looking for some scholarships in the mail.

I applied to Pitt basically on a whim and never really considered it as a solid choice- until I got this scholarship. Now, is there any reason for me to NOT go? I applied to: Boston College, Colgate, U of Minnesota school of business, Wisconsin Madison, U of Denver, and Cal Berkeley. Assuming I don’t get much or any aid from any of these places, why would I not choose Pitt?

What are you planning on studying? Have you visited the campus?

I applied on 11/14, got my acceptance today 11/24. Talk about fast! 10 days! I know I didn’t get into Honors College, but I’m hoping that I’ll get the guaranteed admission to graduate school and some sort of scholarship (even if both are kind of a stretch)

I recently received both the full tuition honors scholarship and the 4,000/year engineering one as well. Do those stack? When I got my engineering one it said it was in addition to the “one I previously received.” Does that mean that my engineering one will go toward room and board? I was also readying about the Chancellor’s Scholarship, and there are also Chancellor Nominee Scholarships that range from 2,000/year to full tuition. Would this add up as well? I’m confused as to why the school may give you full tuition with a Chancellor Nominee scholarship when most of the people that apply to get Chancellor’s already have full tuition. Any information regarding these scholarships would be helpful.

^ only about 40/800 people who get scholarships get full tuition! :)

Are you serious? There’s been like 15 already in this topic haha.

Oh maybe my question was confusing, because I haven’t seen anything on these forums. The question is do these scholarships add up? If you get full tuition do other university scholarships count toward room and board?

I don’t know the answer to your question, but there are a couple of people who usually post here whose kids are getting engineering or nursing scholarships. Maybe one of them will weigh in. Or you can call the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid on Monday and see what they say.
