Yes, the full tuition and engineering scholarships are stacked - you get both. They are listed separately and subtracted from your e-bill.

The engineering and nursing scholarships are applied in addition to the full tuition. I don’t believe the Chancellor’s nominee scholarship stacks. You either get the Chancellor’s nominee or the full tuition. Not everyone invited to apply for the Chancellor’s scholarship receive the full tuition scholarship. Of course, any outside scholarships are also automatically applied toward room & board. Also don’t hesitate to call Pitt if you have questions.

Lipitch – remember these boards are anonymous
But you can look at the common data set to see how many incoming freshmen students received non-need based scholarships. In 2007, there was 303 with an average of $13,187 per student. I am assuming all the scholarship offers from Pitt are non-need based since FAFSA forms haven’t been submitted yet. The numbers for 2008 is not available yet.
Comments: Probably the worst student statistically to get into Pittsburgh’s engineering school =)

I’m OOS and i received a 10k scholarship. i have a 3.9 UW GPA and a 31 ACT. I was just wondering the difference between in state merit scholarships and oos non-need scholarships. is it more difficult to get scholarship if you’re oos?

Actually I think it is easier to get the OOS scholarships, Pitt is actively recruiting OOS students. OOS tuition is way higher than in-state tuition thus they have to be competitive with state flagships (UVA is way cheaper than Pitt) for the top students.

On a side-note, I have to say I am very pleased with the Pitt’s bus transportation home for the holidays/breaks. Just dropped son off at the bus (there were 4 buses leaving the VA/DC area) and it was a very smooth process! It was well worth the $100/roundtrip.

Comments: Accepted into Honors College w/ full tuition scholarship

There seem to be all full tuitions here, from what I heard those are pretty hard to get. (Congrats to you all)

The website said there are $2000 scholarships and up, does anyone know how generous Pitt is with these more intermediate ones?

I know that we’re confused…my d has a 1450/1600, AP scholar with honors, 4.0 uw, 4.9+ weighted GPA…lots of academic clubs, works part times, etc., etc. She was accepted 2 weeks ago into the Honors college but she hasn’t received an academic award letter.

I think she should be awarded something…makes no sense to us.

I believe you need to be patient. I was advised that they issue the letters in groups not individually…hopefully good news will be on the way shortly. I was also told they are on a first come first rewarded basis so provided there are still scholarships available your daughter sounds like a good candidate.

Awards come after acceptance?

Thanks for the encouragement Motherof2girls (I am also the mother of 2 girls!). My daughter was excited to get the original letter, then very quickly the honors letter and then…nothing! I think she is also a good candidate and I keep assuring her that of course they’ll offer you something. She’s heard from 2 schools already…the first one gave her a very generous offer and then Pitt…and she’s also waiting for some other schools. The waiting game continues and the patience will continue.
