OFFICIAL Amherst College Class of 2014 RD Applicants

Keill, when my son was accepted a couple years ago, his financial aid award came in the mail about 5 days or so after the acceptance letter.

Thanks! I’ll stop refreshing now, haha.

did those who received an early write also get an e-mail notifying them of their acceptance?

I didn’t. They never sent anything by email even after I’d received the letter, so perhaps more information is coming around April 1?

I received an early write but did not attend DiVOH… is that uncommon?

I don’t think it’s uncommon for URMs (whether or not they attend Divoh) as well as first-generation applicants to receive likely letters…of course you have to still have excellent stats which everyone who’s posted here seems to have. Congrats!

D received her EW and then a few days later to a week or so the FA package came. No other written follow-up. That IS your acceptance. However, she did receive a phone call from Dr. Marx (the profs are given different EW students to call and he is also a prof.) She also did not attend DIVOH, nor was she invited. However, she was considered a Diversity student because of economics and geography and was then invited to Diversity Accepted Students’ Weekend and Amherst made the arrangements and paid for it. She graduated last May and loved it!

You won’t be getting a paper FA document. You can review your award here.

ejr, when did your daughter receive the call? That’s incredible that she was able to talk to the president! Ah, LACs… :)

The acceptance letter stated that “financial aid office will send notification of your award shortly”. That is kind of ambiguous as to when and how. Hoping an affordable, no loan FA package comes next week. So far nothing online except a listing of documents received.

I think Amherst is on a no-loan policy. The amount that would have been a loan before they adopted this policy becomes a grant.

Yes, if you did the Amherst FA calculator, you should have a pretty good idea what your award will look like, and yes, Amherst has a no loan policy.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed

Does anyone know whether EW’s are sent to internationals?

They are, I think.

The wait is getting kind of difficult now. I just want to hear from Amherst, even if it ends up breaking my heart. Sigh. :(

Feeling’s mutual.

Anyway, its funny how most kids are worrying about acceptance and the parents about FA packages. I’m simultaneously worrying for both.

Any day now.

I don’t think int’ls get EWs. I mean, its not like they don’t have an overabundance of int’ls and how many int’ls can really be HYP material. Even if they’re like a domestic student that is HYP material, the international pool is insanely competitive, I doubt Amherst would bother with an early write to recruit said student.

Did that make sense? I’m sleepy.

For those who have gotten Amherst likely letters, does anything different show up on your page to monitor your application? Or is it regular?

@gapyearstudent
No, I didn’t get that.

Haha, well basically I was saying that practically no (or very few) int’l applicants are definite HYP admits because of the competitiveness of the int’l pool. Therefore, Amherst would probably not send them LLs because apparently the point of LL is to attract the applicant to Amherst first over HYP-type schools.

Um… if this is not clear, never mind. I prob have no idea what I’m talking about.
