*** Official AP Biology Thread 2012-2013 ***

i am actually so scared right now…this is the only AP i actually care

I got a 4, and was livid when I first saw it. Then, I saw the score distribution that showed only about 5% of test takers got a 5. This makes me feel a little bit better.

I got a 3. Honestly, I’m just happy I passed. I got 3 hours of sleep the night before, I was sick during the test, and I blanked out during the MC, so I think a 3 is pretty good taking all that into account. Had I been feeling better and actually had time to finish the MC, I probably could have gotten a 4. Who doesn’t have to take General Microbiology And Public Health in uni now? This guy!!!

I got a 4. I guess that’s good given that I hadn’t taken the class (my school doesn’t offer APs, so I had one year of Honors Biology) and the whole ridiculous 5% 5 thing. I thought the MC was pretty hard but the essays were super easy so I guess a 4 is okay. I’m just happy it’s over.

4!!!

I would just like to point out to all of you that I really don’t care about the reason you got the score you got.

I got a 4. I’m pretty happy with my score, especially because a 4 was my goal.

4, and I thought I had aced it coming out of it…guess not. My teacher had indicated that I was ok for a 5, and she’s on the board who made up the new version.

5, surprisingly. I thought I’d get a 4 seeing as I messed up the chi-square FRQ and part of the organelles one, but I guess everything else turned out better than expected. Self-studied.

I got a 4. I’m actually extremely upset. I go to a National Blue Ribbon high school I am the #1 student of everyone in AP Biology, not to mention I’m only a sophomore and my biggest competition was this senior who was the salutatorian. NOT TO MENTION my teacher even said I am the best student she has had in her career (I have never had anyone say that to me). This class was my favorite this year and I even decided I wanted to major in something related in biology.

BUT I GOT A 4. ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

Are my dreams crushed guys? :/

^ Why does every one have this dire need to brag?

Maybe you’re not right for Biology. You should give up on your dreams and enroll in your nearest Community College in hopes of earning some kind of degree to assist you live a less-than-average life. I’m sorry but that’s the harsh truth of life.

You claim that you attend a Blue Ribbon High School and you are the best Biology student in your school. The only explanation is that your school has been wrongly lauded for its false merits and its praise should be revoked effective immediately.

I got a 3. I wanted a 4, but oh well. I can’t have it all, can I?

Got a 4! I was so worried after seeing the score distributions, but now I’m so relieved!

I got code 90???It says my score is delayed…???DESPERATE FOR MY SCORE!!!when do ya’ll think it’ll come up?!

The Twitter feed about this year’s AP Bio exam is telling; I really feel like they curved the exam to get more 4s and 3s than deserved, but wouldn’t curve students into a 5. The splits for 2013 are very different from 2011 and 2012.
Year: 5s 4s 3s 2s 1s
2011: 18.5% 16.5% 15.2% 14.7% 35.1%
2012: 19.4% 16.9% 14.3% 14.6% 34.8%
2013: 5.4% 21.4% 36.3% 29.5% 7.4%

Almost 15% fewer students getting 5s, but slightly more students getting 3, 4, or 5, and MUCH fewer getting 1s.

site: [2011 AP Exam Score Distribution](<a href=“2011 AP Exam Score Distributions”>2011 AP Exam Score Distributions)

Note this: Fewer students got a 5 on the new AP Biology exam than ANY OTHER AP EXAM!!! This seems SO unbelievable to me, even World History had more 5s percentage wise!

BTW, my son got a 3. Hates biology, doesn’t want to pursue it. His father never even took biology, not even one year in high school and avoided it completely in college. But my son’s HS has AP instead of honors when there is an AP of the subject. I suppose a 3 isn’t too bad for one year of bio.

The highest score in both our Bio classes were 3’s. I was one of them. ha.

I got a 5!!! I actually really have no idea why. I didn’t have time to do 3 grid-ins (even tho i prob wud have got them since im pretty good with math) and blindly guessed on 3 mc bc u had to read a long passage and i dint have time for that. I didnt think I did too hot on the frq’s either, but idk what happened. Anyways, to prepare for the course, I took the class. But throughout the year I never did much. We only had 3 tests in total and I just used the study guide. However, the weekend before the exam, I studied like 14 hours a day of Barrons. I didnt think it helped cuz u didnt rly need to kno stuff. U just need to apply it, so the only way to really prepare is to practice these type of application questions. I don’t know how one cud do that since there r not many practice materials, but truly thats the only way.

I expected a 4, but I ended up getting a 5. It’s quite a pleasant suprise really.

neurogirl97 - First off, congrats on the 5! 31% of test takers got 0 of the grid-ins correct, so I don’t think missing 3 hurt you too bad. I agree that reviewing Barrons and other similar study aids didn’t really help this year. I read Princeton Review (2013) cover to cover and took both practice tests, getting 90%+ on both, but ended up with a 3 on the exam because the types of questions were totally different. I think the rising class will have better study materials than we did since we know what kind of questions the exam asks now. I feel like the CB just didn’t prepare our AP teachers or study aid creators well enough to know what kind of content would be on the exam.
