Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

churchmusicmom-
i thought it was weird that NYU’s neural science dept was an “open house” not an “interview weekend.” i figured it was just a technical thing but rereading the email… i see how it can be interpreted as a possible acceptance as opposed to an stepping stone for admissions like other schools. i honestly don’t know what the “open house” means. maybe if someone knows how the nyu neural science department works i’d really appreciate it.

Does anyone know when the next wave of UPenn (CAMB) and Princeton (Mol Bio) interview invitations will be sent out?

iloveneurosci, have you heard from NYU neural science already?

Harvard BBS is not doing interviews. They explicitly say so on their website. If you get an acceptance email then you’re in. The visiting oportunity is for the applicant’s benefit only. If an accepted candidate wishes not to go for a visit it will not affect his/her admission.

By the way, does anyone know when Brown Biomed (Cell and Molecualr Biology) sends out invites/acceptances?

So, Iloveneurosci, it sounds like you got the same e-mail my d got…and, yes, neurokid, my d got that e-mail invitation to the open house today from the neural science dept at NYU. Hang in there, though, if you have applied and not heard back yet. You never know!

Heard from NYU Neural Science today by email as well. I would love to know if “Open House” means acceptance or interview.

lexexee, not sure about UPenn but I received a phone call on Monday morning from Princeton (Mol Bio). Hopefully you’ll hear from the soon as well! Good luck!

I’ve only gotten an interview with 1 out 0f 7 schools I applied to so far. Is this bad???

neurokid - yep i heard back from nyu’s neural dept this morning. hopefully you’ll hear from them too. good luck!

anyone heard back from princeton’s neuroscience dept yet?

lcalla3,

I wouldn’t worry. I’ve only heard from 1 out of 9! But all the rest of the schools/departments that I applied to haven’t sent out interview notifications yet (that I’ve heard of anyhow).

Got an invitation from Scripps Immunology track by e-mail today! Anyone else going to California? :)

Minnesota Microbiology by email this morning.

My first notification was to interview at University of Wisconsin at Madison for MCP! Notification by email, interview February 12-15.

Weill Cornell BCMB invitation for Feb 19-20 via email, international applicant, file completed by mid-Nov.

PhD-Bound?

Would you mind share your background with us here?

Invitation to interview at Colorado-Boulder Behavioral Neuroscience! E-mail was sent by a professor - since you join right up with a lab there, I assume people will hear at different times based on who they hope to work with.

I also got an interview invitation this morning to Alabama-Birmingham’s Neuroscience Program for a visit in two weeks, which I can’t make. I guess I have to decide whether to take the interview at a different date. I don’t think I would accept UAB over the other schools where I have interviews (which I think is sadly based on prestige), but I don’t want to get too cocky about acceptances.

Advice? Thanks!

Applied: OHSU, UCSF, USC, Minnesota, Johns Hopkins,
Interview: UPenn, UW-Seattle, Vanderbilt, Colorado-Boulder, Alabama-Birmingham

Johns Hopkins?

Hi everyone - I’m trying to arrange interview dates with a few schools that don’t have official weekends. I was wondering if anyone knows if Johns Hopkins neuroscience or cell/molec medicine have sent out invitations? Just wondering if I’m out of the running or if I should keep their weekends open, just in case.

Thanks!

I got an invite to one of the bio programs at JH, but not the Neuroscience one yet. I emailed them and they said they are trying to wrap it up by end of next week (Jan 16). All interviews (at least for the medical school’s graduate programs) are Feb 5-6,
