Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

I think Penn CAMB’s second interview weekend is actually feb 5-7. I was invited to the first but had to reschedule for the second.

biostudent: I’m banking on many people accepting at other places. Especially since this is so far my top pick.

shnjb: did you call them? Did they say they are giving out acceptances in waves?

I heard from CMU today, interview is February 25-26th… Unfortunately the same as the NIH/JHU program. I am not sure which interview I am going to accept.

Interviews from: U of Wisconsin (MCP), CMU, NIH/JHU, U of Rochester Medical Center and UCSC.
Rejected: Berkeley
Waiting for: Pitt, U of Colorado Boulder (Chemistry), and U of Oregon.

Got my last interview invitation today! Heard back from UCSF iPQB (Complex Biological Systems).

Accepted: Harvard (BBS)
Interviews: Harvard (Systems Biology), MIT (Microbiology), Berkeley (MCB), UCSF (iPQB), UCSD (Biology)
Rejected: none

Best of luck to everyone in interviews. I’m sure I’ll see many of you there!

Last interview request today. Thought I’d post stats for people applying next year. Maybe I can give some hope to those of us without 4.0’s and perfect GRE scores…

uGPA: 3.6
GRE: 620V, 780Q
3 years research in undergrad with 2 2nd author papers, 1 conference poster, but in completely different field than the programs to which I applied.
2 year fellowship at NIH in molecular parasitology lab, no papers completed yet.

Interviews: Stanford Micro and Immuno, NYU Sackler Medical Parasitology, WashU Microbial Pathogenesis, Northwestern IGP, UW Pathobiology, Weill Cornell Immuno and Microbial Pathogensis, Tufts Microbiology, OHSU PMCB

Rejected: none

Which Tufts program gave the interview (Sackler or the graduate school), and when did you receive notification?

Have any international students from outside North America heard back from any schools apart from Yale yet?

gsfall09-
I applied to Tufts’ Sackler Institute. Sackler is the graduate school for biomedical sciences, so I’m not really sure what you’re asking. Unless you thought I might be applying to the regular bio dept in Medford? I heard from Tufts before Christmas…I think around the 22nd.

I applied partially to University A’s Biosciences program (deadline Dec-15) but decided not to finish the application. A few days ago I got a call from a faculty member I had listed on my personal statement urging me to finish my application. I just submitted everything the other day to this university but haven’t heard anything back.

Today I got an interview invitation at a different university (University B) whose date coincides with the only interview date for University A. I would much rather go to University A than University B, and I don’t want to book this weekend with University B then get invited to University A.

Is there a way I could call up University A (or the faculty member who contacted me) and let them know about this? Is this being too presumptuous? If I do contact someone, should I contact the the program or the faculty member who contacted me? I have to accept University B’s invitation by Wednesday, with the holiday that isn’t very much time.

shoebox: I think you should definitely contact University A and ask the status of your app.

I just declined my interview invitation at Northwestern. :frowning: while I would love to go there, the other two programs that clash with both their interview dates are much more applicable to what I want to do. And they are very rigid about me interviewing ONLY during their weekends. Oh well.

Just heard from MIT Biology.
Still haven’t heard from MIT BCS (neuro)

Got an interview invitation from Mount Sinai, an on-site interview. However, I am international and live outside US…is it normal?

Have anyone heard from Duke University?

Besides, I wonder know when WUSTL invite anyone for interview.
(How long before interview date)

MIT interview! yay!

Also, I was invited to Berkeley MCB last week, but my friend wasn’t - does anyone know if they send out invitations in waves?

@WayaDudK: Received an interview invitation to WUSTL on Monday, by phone.

How does MIT informes the ones who are invited?

MIT informed by e-mail with the title “MIT Biology Open House Invitation”

No calls.

MIT is in.

Accepted: Rockefeller
Interviews: Yale, Sloan-Kettering, Weill Cornell, Berkeley, Stanford, MIT
Waiting: Columbia, Harvard (I guess I won’t be hearing from these two), NYU

funky, was that for bio? which one are you going to?
