skale_far:
I was rejected from UCSF’s PSPG this morning too (or should I say “denied”!). If it’s any consolation, I have only heard bad things about the environment at UCSF.

LOL me too! How depressing!

Has anyone heard from UCLA MMP, USC, Columbia Pharmacology, and BU yet?

Is anyone else here going to the NYU Neuroscience interview next week?

Did anyone attend Northwestern IGP interview in the past weekend? How was it?

What have you heard that was bad about UCSF?

does anyone have information on Rockefeller University??? have they accepted people???interviewed anyone??? rejected anyone???

I’m very curious too… what bad things are said about UCSF?

Rockefeller has invited (received postal ~2 weeks ago) many people and they are probably done.
The invitations were acceptances as well.

I’ve always only heard good things about UCSF…

Got interviews to Duke Neurobiology and University of Miami Neuroscience. Am I gonna see anyone else on here at any of those weekends?

I’ve heard from a former professor and a grad student that the environment at UCSF is not very collegial and highly competitive. However, at any great institution there are bound to be some people who have bad experiences so don’t take it to heart. If you’ve heard good things about it then go with that. I didn’t get an interview a UCSF so I guess I’ll never know!

I don’t know what top institute would not be classified as competitive.
But if it’s not very collegial, that would concern me a bit.

I don’t think you’ll find out whether a place is friendly or not from the recruitment weekend anyway, because everyone is nice to you and saying nice words like “we really hope you come here.”

Sent an email to Weill Cornell staff and got a reply that I was rejected. I figured that was going to happen with the interview weekend very soon, but it is what it is. I’m a little bummed, but gotta move on and focus on my UPenn interview weekend, which starts tomorrow.

Shnjb, you are way off. Many graduate schools have a collegial and collaborative environment while still being productive. You don’t need to have some sort of cutthroat mentality to succeed. Check out publications that have authors representing multiple labs in the department. Also check the number of grad students with co-PIs

does anyone know anything about weill cornell interviews?
do they reject a lot of people?
if its called recruitment weekend does that mean the chance is better?

bubbloy - i am wondering the same thing. is your interview 2/18-20 as well? mine is, for immunology.

mripioneer - i would say, with reasonable confidence, that they are done accepting people. their interview was 2 weekends ago and i think schools normally accept people within a week or two. to be frank, i feel awkward directly inquiring about it to the immunology students here, since i am so obviously rejected without an interview. sorry! have you tried talking to the DMS office? they may be able to tell you - they were always nice to me at the DMS office whenever i called with a question. can’t say the same about HILS though.

best of luck!!!

First acceptance!! Got a call today saying i was accepted to Baylor COM. It’s nice knowing I’ll be going to grad school for sure, no more worrying about the worst case scenario happening.

Applied: UCSD BMS, Johns Hopkins MMI, Columbia Biological Sciences, Scripps, UNC BBSP, Yale BBS
Rejected: Yale (by email), UNC-BBSP (by phone)
Interviews: Columbia (March 5-7… will anyone else be there?)
No Response yet: UCSD BMS, Scripps, Hopkins

GPA: 3.5 overall, 3.35 Chemistry
GRE: 610 V (87%), 740Q (83%), 5.5AW (88%)

I can’t figure out UCSD…b/c some people heard back mid-december, others i mid-Jan and i haven’t heard boo… they say they will post it to the application website. Has anyone actually had this work for their apps? i’ve tried calling and they never answer the phone…

Also, does anyone know how Scripps works? B/c they told me they don’t notify until April, which seems obscenely late. An undergrad prof said they may have a quid-pro-quo relationship with certain institutions and that their admission process wasn’t typical. I don’t know… do any of you?

Thirdly, has anyone heard from Hopkins MMI?

I applied to UCLA MMP (I have an interview, but don’t know if I want to go anymore because I’m likely going to accept at Berkeley Molecular Toxicology - what can I say, I like sunny weather). UPenn’s pharm program sent an interview invitation to me also (a long time ago), but I also declined the interview… I’ve been offered interviews at Boston U, Boston College, Hopkins, NYU, Columbia, Washington, UT Austin, Maryland, USC (all pharm PhD programs)… but have declined.

Rejected from stanford and ucsf so far.

Haven’t heard back from MIT, Caltech, Rockefeller, Harvard (likely rejected… pharm programs as well or Bio/bio-eng in the cases of caltech/MIT)

GOT MY STANFORD REJECTION LETTER :(.

Has anyone heard from UCSB Psych? (Not a clinical program, more bio-psych) There’s no “decision available” on my application form and it’s driving me nuts!

Neuroscience PhD
