Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

Haha theory was it that obvious?? I definitely am thrilled. Phanta, I most likely will be going too…so we’re probably going to be classmates!

RE: UCSF TETRAD

GLARBTRON, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities UCSF is 3rd in the WORLD for Biosciences (behind Harvard and MIT) and 2nd for Clinical Med (behind Harvard)… not too shabby! The US News and World Report has UCSF ranked 4th in molecular bio, and it’s also the 3rd largest recipient of NIH funding. I think UC research PhDs are generally regarded with enormous respect in the biomedical sciences, with UCSD leading the way in Neuro and UCSF at the forefront for Cell/Molec (and, of course, Medicine… but that’s not a PhD, now is it?).
Would y’all agree?

I’m not so sure about UCSD being the best anymore in neuro (they’ve lost some of their people).

In fact, I think among approximately the top 10, (Harvard, Columbia, UCSD, UCSF, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Rockefeller, Hopkins? and ?) it’s kind of like splitting hairs.

Pretty good list. Maybe also Berkeley? Or Yale? (just to split hairs a little more)

roxannecellbio, do you know if UCSF Tetrad is still conducting interviews? also, congrats!!!

Congrats Roxanne!! I look forward to having you (most likely) around in the fall!

Hooray!

Hi sgee,

I believe they are not conducting any more interviews; this was the last as far as i know.

i look forward to seeing you too evoviro!

Accepted to the CM Program at BU Graduate School.

Congrats roxannecellbio!

Husband got an email this morning saying he has been wait-listed at UW-Seattle. He was told he was high up on the list so that’s good at least. Anyways he’ll wait a few weeks on the wait-list and hope for the best. Bummer though.

Got in to UCSD neuroscience today… so people who interviewed there might want to check their inboxes. Hope to see some of you in SD!

Congrats jipkin! I also got into UCSD Neuroscience today and think I’m going to accept the offer. Guess I’ll see you in the fall!

I don’t know if many people applied there, but I was contacted by UMaine dept of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology last night via email for a phone interview today

Is it just me or did the status page for UTAustin just change a tiny bit? I swear there didn’t use to be a blue box around "We have received all credentials required to process your application. Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review. ". Still no actual admissions decision on the page but I’m pretty sure that bit changed from a couple of hours ago.

I think this officially wins for most neurotically reading into things. :)

Not trying to be mean…I’m sure I did the same kind of things last year…such a nerve racking experience. Good luck with your Apps. :)

Hey at least I win SOMETHING right?

I’m fairly sure the UTAustin status page has been my most visited website these past few weeks. I even load it up and then refresh it once just to be sure.

do acceptances come before rejections (post interview)? we were told those accepted will be notified within two weeks. it’s been two weeks, nothing for me yet. I’m assuming de facto rejection. opinions

hi patchesnbrownie,

did nesbit tell you about your acceptance?

any one else hear from weill cornell immuno?

People who have received acceptance letters from BU CM/MCBB programs, if you know you like some other school better and probably will not go to BU, please inform them. I am on the waitlist and will be given an acceptance once they know how many people they have accepted to far will not matriculate. There is a professor at BU I really want to work with, so PLEASE help me. Please inform them of your decision so that the waitlisted people have a shot at getting accepted.

So I officially completed this grueling process today with acceptance into my top choice and figured I’d give a final status update. Applied to all Neuroscience programs …

Accepted: UC San Diego, Washington University, Johns Hopkins, UC Irvine
Interviews that I declined: UCLA, UW Madison, UC Davis
Rejected / no response: UCSF, Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Columbia

Going to UCSD!

Good luck to everyone who’s still interviewing or waiting on decisions!

congrats cogneuro on UCSD! I haven’t heard from UCI yet, but maybe it’ll help me get into their acceptance list! thanks for making an early decision!
