Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

anyone going to MIT or rockefeller in the coming week?

Have any international students heard anything from IGP, Vanderbilt University?

wayaduck, I applied to Vanderbilt IGP as well. I checked GradCafe and found most offers for international applicants were sent in late March. So I guess we shall wait until then.

Accepted to BU MCBB for fall 2009.

To Leukemia
Will the interview be conducted in phone interview or on-campus interview?
Thanks!

I guess phone interviews

Wailtlisted on UCSF iPQB and UC Berkeley Biophysics after interviews. It has been crucifying waiting for these two weeks. I heard nothing from them until emailed them inquiring about my status- waitlisted:( I’m an international, and I hate the fact that they only take one or two int’l students each year. Congrats on those who were admitted to these two programs, but if you have decided to take another offer, please save the chance to us! I would appreciate that!

niwhu, are you an international who got degree in US? I am a student from Canada, and I got rejected at UCSF iPQB. Do you mind sharing your stats?

Does anyone know if UCSF Tetrad does waitlisting?

Vanderbilt IGP got an enormous number of international applications but funds a large portion of their graduate program through training grants that internationals aren’t eligible for. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t get acceptance from them, they had something like 500 apps from internationals and could only take a couple.

Belevitt… Do you, by any chance, know if Duke MGM has finished contacting internationals?

Hi bernardzhu,

I earned my BS and MS degree in my country (Taiwan). I guess I was pick for the interviews mostly because I have a fellowship which supports my first two years study in the US (it’s not full funding though, about $25000 per year). As for the standardized tests, fair on the verbal and AWA parts considering that English is not my mother tongue, full score on the quantitative. I have one first author paper published on NAR and several conference posters. All my records and publications supports my consistent interest in biophysics. Hope that helps. Best of luck with our application!

I am sorry Micrograd, I do not know if MGM has contacted internationals yet. Though I know they were going to have 4 more people interviewing this or last weekend, so clearly they aren’t done making decisions. Best of luck.

Belevitt: Thank you for your information about Duke! And congrats on being accepted! How many students do you think they will take out of the interviewed students?
I have not been invited, but Duke is one of my first choice…

Am at MIT now

belevitt - I got $5 on 16!!!

I have been following this forum for several months now. I know someone who has several acceptances to molecular medicine PhD programs and is planning on making a decision as soon as she has carefully compared all aspects of the different programs so she chooses the program that will be the best fit for her. When one of the schools offered her admission by phone a couple of weeks ago, they wanted a decision on the spot. She obviously wasn’t prepared at that point so was told she would have until a certain date, which was less than a week later. Is this practice acceptable? Should she feel obligated to make the decision over a month earlier than the official date otherwise having to decline the offer at that school?

Micrograd- I am in another department at Duke. Most of the international students I know interviewed before the domestic students weekends last year. That being said, I know domestic students who were accepted in late March so all hope is not lost.

Good luck
