Official Biomedical Sciences Interviews/Acceptances 2009

I am sorry Leukemia, I had you confused with somebody else.

No wonder. It’s OK. Nevermind.

waitlisted at UCSD BMS… and went to Columbia Biology this weekend. Very impressive! Should get a final answer sometime this week…

Anyone heard from Integrated Biomedical Sciences at Ohio State or Genetics at University of Arizona?

Do you guys think it is appropriate to start emailing schools i haven’t heard from to ask about my status?

Yes. Schools are emailing me to ask about my status.

Has anyone applied to the Northwestern IBiS? I was “held” after the firstf round interview, but haven’t heard back for weeks.

Does anyone has the same situation with me?

caribeanblue,

I believe the next round of interviews is this week. If you are on a waitlist, then they will probably wait until this round of interviews is done before making a decision. If it’s of any help, I recently declined the interview so hopefully that frees up a spot.

anyone going to rockefeller?

Are other people recently getting a lot of calls from professors at whose schools you’ve been admitted?

shoebox360, when was your weekend visit with IBGP at OSU?

shnjb, I’m going to rockefeller next year, if that’s what you’re asking. If you’re asking about the open house, then nevermind. I was at the open house last weekend.

I haven’t visited, I actually haven’t heard a thing from them or Arizona.

I applied to 2 schools, I got accepted at the first one but they want me to confirm acceptance by mid-march.

My interview at the second school is scheduled for a few days from now, and I assume I won’t hear back if I’ve been admitted until after the acceptance deadline for the first school.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation/found a nice way of asking a school to wait to accept their offer? The problem is I don’t want to insult them and have my offer revoked, because the truth is I just want to see both programs before making a final decision.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi gxt800,

I was just admitted to a school that asked me to reply by April 1st. Because of several issues I asked the secretary politely (by e-mail) if it would be okay if I let them know by April 7th, and he said that as long as I reply by April 15th that’s fine, it’s just that they would love to know ASAP.

I think there are other threads on this forum regarding this issue that you can read up on! :)

Phanta,

It’s so nice of you.
Congratulations to you for getting better offer(s)!

One of the programs I applied to also asked for a mid-March deadline. I understand why they do this, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. I was lucky in that I wasn’t tremendously interested in the program and could turn it down… but if it had been a top choice that I was weighing against others I would have been pretty ****ed. Especially since early/mid-March is prior to many schools accepted students revisit weekends.

I would suggest contacting them, expressing your very real interest in their program, but that because of the interview schedule you need a few more days. If they can’t accommodate you with such a small request, it could be a sign of the programs flexibility in general.

In your experience (judging from your first admissions emails), do schools usually inform that you’ve been “recommended for admission” and that you have been submitted to the graduate office for official approval, or do they only tell you right out after you have been approved, etc.?

Stanford Biosciences (Genetics) admission today by phone! For those interested, ~20 interviewed for ~12-15 spots.

Anyone hear back on acceptance/rejection from UCSF Neuroscience after the interview weekends? I talked to a recruit at Stanford that said that they had received a phone call from a professor that they were admitted but they might have personal connections.
