catherinee5:

I wrote my main common app essay on my life with tamales. I basically wrote about how even making the most unusual tamales can be successful. Anyway, my mom used to sell tamales so I knew that they were a big part of my life :)

My supplement was the advice my mother gave me on dealing with things in life. I’ve moved around at least over 8 times and so I wrote about that.

I don’t mean to brag but I am just so overjoyed that I am done with college apps. I would post all the information asked for but I am kind of embarrassed because they are not as good as a lot of what I have seen. What I will say is I am a first-year African American female from the Bronx that attends a public school. My GPA is a 4.0 (unweighted because I am just taking APs as a Senior) and my SAT scores (and SAT IIs) were all in the mid to upper 500s. But I have learned to be bi-lingual (Spanish was all that was offered), spent my summers productively (abroad with AMIGOS, interning, Outward Bound), am apart of two prestigious college prep programs (Summer Search & The Opportunity Network), and am very active in my community. Amongst my ECs are Mock Trial (Co-Captain), SGA (School Pres., Class Rep.), Debate (Varsity Policy & PFD), Yearbook (Editor-in-Chief), Step Team & I have serious community service hours. I plan on majoring in Latin American Studies and going off to law school which, I guess you can see that throughout my application. But I would say the strongest part of my application would have to be my essay which was crafted extremely well & talked about how I had to overcome family issues.

[li] Where else were you accepted/deferred:[/ul][/li]General Comments: Oh congratulations to all of you. I am reject4sure, and if you ever went on yaybrown you know I was there all the time. This is a sad day but all of us who were deferred need to get back on our feet and make some particle accelerators and win a nobel prize before RD is over!! Don’t count me out just yet :)

From a rejected ED’er

I just wanted to congratulate everyone that was accepted, you all deserve it and your posts show that. To those who are deferred, please don’t complain about your situation. There are those of us who haven’t fared so well, and as another commentator previously mentioned, most of your stats are very similar to the ED accepts.

The only real pattern for those rejected (me and kidonfirstpagewho’snameIforgot), is our low class ranks/GPA’s.

I really wish you guys lots of luck this April. I may try to apply transfer next year, but who knows, I may be content where I end up. Just please be appreciative of the fact you still have chance at Brown; some of us don’t anymore.

Good luck guys,
Joseph

:( Sorry Joseph! I was looking forward to get to meet you. Best wishes wherever you go :)

Rejected.
For a Chinese national, 2060 isn’t that easy to obtain.
But I know it’s definitely in their lower end…

The worst thing is that, my October SAT score got delayed by Collegeboard, and it arrived at the committee at around December 1st… :(

No wonder I got a direct ding.

Potterpie: Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you, really. It feels weird to say, but it’s like we’ve got our own little quirky internet family on here haha.
