[] Job/Work Experience: paid research position at a university with one of the associate professors
[] Volunteer/Community service: none
[] Summer Activities: (see job/work experience)
[] Essays: The people I had read my essay thought it was good—mostly because it showed my personality. I think I’m just ok at writing, but what I liked about it was how it showed who I am.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Both the teachers I asked are people who I believe like me as a person and a student. But, I didn’t see them, so I can’t say for sure.
[] Counselor Rec: Well, I spent a lot of time in my counselor’s office talking about college, so she got to know me pretty well, and she told me about some of the stuff that she put in, so it sounded pretty good. But I never saw the letter.
[] Additional Rec: (no additional rec)
[] Interview: Good interview, I think, I asked a lot of questions and my interviewer made positive comments (said he liked that I asked a lot of questions, etc.). Did have a few slightly awkward moments when I didn’t know how to answer a question and when I thought he had a different job than he actually did, though. Sent a thank-you note after the interview (I hear this is a very good idea).

Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant):
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: private, very small
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: female
[] Income Bracket: upper middle class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none[/ul]
Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: very strong grades, good leadership, good test scores (all good on paper), I think I conveyed myself well in my CommonApp essay
[] Weaknesses: the specific to Brown essays could have used a little more work—I banged them out in a couple of hours the Friday before the app was due when I was totally sick; also, I did literally no community service (at least none that I put on my application)
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I have no idea, just lucky I guess!
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/ul] got into Tulane, didn’t apply anywhere else (was going to if I got deferred/rejected)[/li]General Comments:

Question for Wendelicious: Do you know what the stats are for deferrals? Like, do we get any sort of slight advantage over RD applicants, especially if we show that we still really wanna go despite not being accepted right away?

Decision: Deferred

[] Teacher Recommendation: Really good, teachers all loved me
[] Counselor Rec: Counselor got to know me very well in a short amount of time, and has access to all teacher/advisor comments from past years, so very good.

If you know where to look, CC can give you some of the most valuable information you will ever use in your essays, testing, and even classes. The amount of intellect exhibited by everyone here is staggering, and I give this community my utmost gratitude in helping me get to my top school. Congratulations to all accepted, including idiotqueen and the other PLMEs; you excited as I am?! To all those deferred/rejected, there is still MUCH you can do in the upcoming weeks to perfect your applications and hopefully succeed. Remember, it’s just a system, and you can beat it.

Have faith Asian people!

Do we need to accept the offer. I can’t find any tab for this.

No need to accept… it’s ED, so you don’t have a choice. I’m sure the materials they send you later will include some confirmation, but you’re committed. To get out of it you’d have to call admissions and present a good argument explaining why it is not financially feasible for you to attend.

Strengths: music, my personality and how everything made sense so to speak in my application
Weaknesses: Self-doubt, scores, lack of anything that would make people say “wow”

Comments: CONGRATS to all those who were accepted! I am so excited to meet you all next year  Brown is the best Ivy because of the people there (among a multitude of other reasons!)
To those deferred: you wouldn’t have been deferred if they weren’t interested! I know you’ve heard this, but don’t give up, pursue BROWN! You all seem like amazing people
To those denied: I would have loved to meet you, but I guess the admissions committee was having a bad day when they reviewd your applications or something! Maybe you wouldn’t have been happy at Brown. Best of luck!

chickennuggetIII, i believe in you! because you believe that your personal qualities [and e.c.] are your strengths =] ; perhaps if your essays were strong enough, then, you would get in.
i think your sat scores are great enough. and your e.c.s are better than mine…

[] Teacher Recommendation: I’d assume pretty good ones. My Spanish teacher from Spain is sort of a wildcard because he isn’t used to the American system
[] Counselor Rec: Pretty impersonal. I go to a school of 1000 kids per class. That being said, I stood out for him because I lived in Spain
[] Additional Rec: Really good. I had the leader of the four trips I made to a Guatemalan orphanage during Spring Break write my rec.

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Girl Engineer, Spent Junior Year in Spain With A Host Family, Sister Currently Attending (Who Knows If It Actually Helps)
[] Weaknesses: GPA
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred: Quite honestly, my GPA did not look very impressive in comparison to other people. They only accepted one ED applicant out of 20 that wasn’t an athlete.
[li] Where else were you accepted/deferred:[/ul] None[/li]General Comments:
Quite honestly, I was pretty bummed because I definitely “stood out” from my peers at school. While my GPA was rather low for what they regularly accept, the fact that I am a white girl that loves Math and Physics seemed like a big bonus. Also- I attended an American school in Spain for my Junior year, and learned to speak Spanish proficiently. The school taught at honors level pace. Four of my classes were in Spanish (Spanish History, Art History, Advanced Spanish Language AP, and Political science) and two were in English (Calc, English-lit) However, I must not complain. A GPA is a measure of someone’s hard work during two years of their high school career, and that’s undeniable.

And they only took one girl who got in without athletics involved. She has a 3.95 GPA. Beyond that she seems like a very talented writer.
