@upsidemkt, I was accepted for communications yesterday. Your SAT scores are higher than mine and my CSU GPA is a 3.9 BUT that is including freshman year so without it it may be a little lower. I’d say you have a good shot. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll hear soon.
@hellosweetie all early decision applicants that were admitted found out in December . Any applicant that was not admitted at that time was automatically put in the regular decision system. Their portal changed very slightly from thank you for applying early decision etc to just thank you for applying. A lot of people were confused by that. Have your friends check the wording in the portal and if the early part is missing then they know they are in regular decision. It would have been easier if they had been told they were being deferred to regular!
Called Admissions today and was told the same thing about “rolling” acceptance. Not sure what this means! My daughter applied under ED got deferred and we were told by Admissions she still had a chance of being accepted. They have had her application since Oct and we still have not heard despite others who applied under RD who have heard already - anyone have comments/advice? It’s her #1 choice and at this point she is heart broken assuming she did not get in!
@akhshri434 I received my acceptance last Thursday. I believe there was one other physics major on this thread who was accepted that day, too. Hopefully you’ll hear back soon!
Did they tell you via the portal or did you receive an acceptance letter in the mail? Do you mind me asking your GPA and SAT or ACT scores. She is applying under Food Science
In reply to the poster suggesting not to tell people to move on…it seems harsh, but what is harsher is dragging this out unnecessarily for students and their parents. Many of us have been through this, and some more than once. And they say these they are rolling every year, keeping people hanging with hope and for some it is really torture waiting. And what we have seen all these years is that they come out in batches by major like they did and that really is all of them until around March 10-14th when they send the “you have not been accepted” post. There might be a person here or there admitted, but we are talking a couple in a major that they discover some extenuating circumstances with. But generally, if your major has already seen acceptances, they are done, at least that is how it has been for the last several years. You can go through old decision threads and see the pattern. It is agony like this every year. And I agree with the “ranting parent” it does not say anything good for CP’s program that admission has to be done this way - poorly and so minimal in effort. Every other school releases all at once - if their man power is so bad at this, what does it say dealing with registration and other things for four years there? I think it says in college, like life, you get what you pay for. btw, mine was accepted several days ago, still think the system is horrible.
Frustrating to say the least. With all the applicants that have received acceptances, and no other information, I believe it’s human nature to jump to some conclusions or rationalize some other outcome. I’m sure the phone in the admissions office is ringing off the hook. For the time they are taking to field those calls, it sure seems like it would be more efficient to post the available information, which they have to know at this point. (like: xx% of acceptance have been sent, xx% targeted by , balance by April 1).
Agree with the last two posts - it is terrible to drag this out! Does anyone know if there have been any acceptances go out in the major of Food Science which is what my daughter applied to under ED got deferred and still has not heard under RD. She has been crying for the last several days assuming she has not been accepted and all the Admission staff say are we are still sending out acceptances.
I think it’s pretty strange for a parent whose children who have been “supposably” admitted, to feel the need to tell other people to move on, because they have probably been rejected, since they havent heard a decision when they did. Several people who have called the admissions office are told another story, so I am going with that. Cal poly says that decisions will be out BY April 1st, and they are letting people know early. That doesn’t seem harsh. If you already have a decision for your child, maybe jump over to an admitted thread and stop trying to crush other peoples hopes to get in.
I really appreciate the info about the system that @eyemgh shared. Shocking to find that 39% is based on demographics, but even that does not explain what we see here. First of all, there simply are not enough employees of Cal Poly without high school etc., to account for the disparities. Further, they simply do not explain either why it takes months to start coming out and weeks to roll out, if it is simply number based, nor some of the discrepancies noted on this board, and very dramatically on last year’s board. I have to think there are some more subjective criteria involved, as there are in most colleges. Whatever it is, it really no longer matters. It is what it is, and those of us whose kids have not heard have to deal with that. As there are many applicants, so too there are many schools. Anyway onward!
Anyone hear under Food Science yet??
Every year is the same. Those that get accepted early are relieved, those that have to wait get frustrated. Most students who apply to Calpoly SLO also apply to UC Berkeley, UCLA, and other schools that release decisions in late March. At least CP SLO can give you an answer earlier. ALL schools make admit decisions that make no sense - like admitting students with lower than average stats (see last year’s threads for UCLA, UCI, Davis…) You will soon find out. It’s a defensive mechanism to criticize schools for not choosing you/your kid. It’s not personal! Too many great students applying, too few spaces. High School kids need to cast a wide net when applying for college realizing the competition is what it is.
Admissions told us just because she has not heard yet under Food Science doesn’t mean she hasn’t gotten in. On an earlier post someone said Acceptance starting coming out mid Feb. Wait list end of Feb. and Rejections in March - any truth to that??
@CSUMOMx2 We had a kid at UNR (University of Nevada Reno assuming that is what you are referring to ?) and have a kid at CP SLO. I know the wait at CP SLO Is frustrating to say the least and there appears to be no rhyme or reason in their process for notification to applicants. These are very different schools and if you can hang in there and afford CP SLO, and your kid has been to CP and loves it, then I really recommend that you wait for a definitive decision from CP if notification to UNR permits. Our kid at UNR? Dropped out after the first semester - too large and too impersonal for our kid’s taste. Now going to a much smaller school in a much better location and is much happier. I guess I’ve drank the kool-aid but CP is an outstanding school with a group of outstanding young adults. CP Admissions is doing the best they can - I do believe that but understand that is easier for me to say that from where I sit. It is a state university but arguably the best state university on the west coast and has been discovered thus the flood of applicants. The next four years (or 5 years? -ha!)? Maybe bumps along the way but know that the University will do its best it can to provide an outstanding education and opportunity to its students. Hope it works out.
The above timelime regarding denials/waitlist and admissions has been my experience with 2 sons in the last 2 years. First, I noticed a huge increase in OOS acceptances this year and I think SLO is waiting to see how many will accept right away. If not many accept, then they can open up more spots to in-state applicants and you should some more acceptances trickling in through March. By Mid-March, pretty much the denials/acceptances and waitlisted will be completed, but there is always some posts into April (not knowing if they are posting late or accepted late). As a parent, all you can do is reassure your son/daughter that they will get into a school they were mean to attend. There are soooooo many good choices out there for everyone. Also, do not try to second guess the admissions at any of these schools, many times you never know why someone got it or didn’t. Like many posters have pointed out, if your son/daughter had a balanced college list, they will get into some good schools. Good Luck to all that are waiting and Congratulations to all that have been accepted.
I agree Cal Poly SLO is wonderful, my brother-in-law, sister plus several other family members attended SLO. My daughter wants to get accepted so badly - it’s her #1 choice. It is very very difficult waiting this out when other kids she knows who applied under RD have already heard and she was deferred under ED and still has not heard under RD for Food Science.
Anyone heard under the Food Science Major???
Someone in my son’s school heard around 2pm today that she got in for CS. So that confirms that they are not going by majors and are still handing out acceptances.
Has any KINESIOLOGY major applied and been accepted? Stats/date pls!
Anyone recently heard for econ??
CS major here still waiting but I think it is a lost cause for me… Seriously considering SDSU.
