**OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO CLASS of 2019 Regular Decision** Thread

Im desperately waiting for econ too.

Has anybody heard from materials engineering yet? I know all of the other engineers have heard, but I haven’t seen anybody mention materials.

My son (Electrical Engineering) checked the portal on tuesday and he was in. Don’t really know when he was admitted. No email yet. We are instate.

Has anyone that was deferred ED been accepted?

I’m assuming the kids who applied ED and were deferred were put at the end of the “line” for admission notification, and will find out later. Assuming that this is notification based on time of turning in your application.

@tlhs2015 I have only seen one acceptance on this thread for Kinesiology and that was several days ago. My D is also waiting to hear for same major.

@jss2015‌ I have a friend (OOS) who got admitted into kinesiology 2 days ago, don’t know stats though

I haven’t seen many posts about people getting accepted into these majors, so I thought I’d add that I have friends who have been accepted into Political Science, Environmental Studies, and English about 2-3 days ago. They are all in-state!

I have 3 friends who also applied to Computer Science and haven’t received anything.

I applied to software engineering, and haven’t gotten anything yet as well. Has anyone been accepted to it yet or seen it on this thread?

@jss2015 my D is still waiting to hear from CP SLO for Kinesiology, but heard back today via email accepted into SDSU

@swimdogmom I am confused about your UNR statement. UNR’s Fall 2014 enrollment was 19,934, while Cal Poly is listed on CSU Mentor as being 19,703. I expect the 231 extra students at UNR doesn’t make a significant difference. My son applied to UNR as a fourth choice. They are offering him money and called 4 times today while I was in a staff meeting (they have my phone on record). I am not advocating for either UNR or Cal Poly, but they are far more organized and open about their admissions. UNR is working hard to improve their tech departments, as the Reno area recently landed the Tesla plant, and several complimentary tech firms have announced their intent to locate in Reno. They need UNR to graduate talented STEM employees.

Sometimes when an organization begins to see itself as elite, it no longer provides the level of service worthy of its patrons. Cal Poly is hot right now, but tides turn quickly if the population begins to see issues. I was advised against my son attending Cal Poly because a friend’s daughter found she could not get into courses she needed and it was going to take a long, expensive time to complete her degree in Animal Sciences. She transferred out. I looked at average class load and it appears to be 14.48, so my son decided it would be worth trying.

I am concerned that at this point most of the admitted students have received their letters. If I were the admissions office, I would probably give the same story to avoid dealing with parents until the rejections have officially been sent. But, I don’t know so I have advised my son that it is not probable at this point in time. His grades and scores were very good, and that he will be an asset to the college that he ends up attending. We are expecting him to get his Master’s, so he can attempt Cal Poly for that as well. BTW, we had another CSU school accept him within a week or two of his applying, so it IS possible.

@AGrahamCracker‌: Saw 3 posts for admitted Software Engineers. 2 were OOS.

I’m guessing since comp sci and bio med engineering are the two most competitive majors at slo, decisions haven’t been released yet.

Anyone know of acceptance under Food Science Major yet?? Still waiting…

@MilitaryFamily‌, CP can be frustrating, but in regards to class registration, is getting better every year, not worse. My son had 12 rotation Winter quarter this year as a first year. It doesn’t get any worse than that. You need base classes and can’t yet use priorities. He got every class he needed. Next year they are switching to a seniority system like most other schools use. It should be even better. It can be a little bureaucratic, but I’ve heard Berkeley is “like going to school at the DMV.”

To all the angry parents: chill out. Your kid will go to whatever school he/she is meant to go to. Sometimes it doesn’t work out. In 10 years, none of this will mean anything. Stop analyzing all the data and realize that whatever choice the college made was probably made a month ago and for a good reason. We all know your kid is amazing. So are the thousands of other kids that applied.

Also to all the obsessive parents constantly checking this thread and their kid’s portals: Stop. You’re probably stressing them out. They don’t need that. Take a break. What’s done is done. You’ll find out soon enough whether or not they were accepted. So instead refreshing portals, spend some time with your kid. You only have a few more months before we’re gone.

CS came out several days ago.

Not trying to be hurtful, just informative, hearing about kids crying breaks my heart. But for informational purposes and to save others from going through hundreds of last years posts like I just did…in 2014, on March 1st waitlist decisions came out. From that point on and for about 30 pages of posts, there were no further acceptances (except for one international acceptance, I think he checked his portal late was all). On March 10th rejections (such a harsh term) came out. So between March 1 and March 10 there were no other acceptances posted on here last year, consistent with two prior years. From March 10th to end of thread (about the last 15 pages of posts) there were still no acceptances, just discussion of rejections. I would not want my student dragging through those 10 days and would rather cut losses at that point. If a miracle happened and you get in for some unexpected reason, that would be that much sweeter. So once you see people posting that they are waitlisted, hoping to get in may not be healthy. This info is consistent with years prior to that as well (been following CP for awhile). Not trying to crush dreams, trying to protect them by using data that is available, not conjecture. Wish you all the best.

@fancymecharm‌ yes, I heard back from Civil engineering on Monday at 2.

  • Caucasian female
    -in state
    -sat: 2000
-act:32 with a 33 in the math section
  • 3.9 CSU gpa
  • 9 ap classes and many honors classes
  • basically no community service but I have a year of working and a decent amount of extra curiculars

I think being female really helped me. I’ve heard that cal poly is desperate for women in thier engineering program.
Best of luck to you! I’ll be hoping that you get in!!

Can one of the many parents start a separate thread for parents and leave this one open for students? Other colleges don’t have so many parents. Starting to make me wonder.

At least the parents are contributing to cc and this thread, I wouldn’t negate them in place of people (parents or students) with a couple posts that aren’t adding value in the posts or lack of them. I wonder more about posters bothered by parents, or anyone for that matter, posting.

Official acceptance email arrived at 8:00pm PST.

@claudia318‌ I was admitted ED for Econ and have been following this thread to see how many ED referred to RD were admitted. (I know a lot of juniors that want to apply ED next fall). And yes quite a few have already been admitted. However, depends on the major. There are still some majors that have not been released yet. So do not get discouraged, even if your major has been released. Last year a lot of people found out later than others. Good luck!
