@PleasantonCali that’s exactly what I said if you read my post. I said that CP ranks 7th among universities that DONT offer a doctorate. But I also said that there’s another ranking site, CollegeFactual that ranks both lists together and on that list, SLO is ranked above all UC’s. I did my research before posting that…i
@PleasantonCali don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself on the sites I listed
@PleasantonCali, whether schools offer doctorates or not has NOTHING whatsoever to do with what your undergraduate experience will be like. In fact, offering PhDs might be a detriment to the undergrad as most of the resources are directed to the graduate programs. Olin, Harvey-Mudd, Rose-Hulman, all the service academies and Poly are all highly respected for the engineers they produce, right up there with any of the schools that also offer PhDs. This isn’t a rant defending Poly. It’s a rant against making a statement based on misinterpretion of the “ranking” data.
Now, on to the rankings. The grand daddy of them all US News and World Report, has a multipart methodology for every program type they rank EXCEPT engineering. If you want to use any ranking system, first you need to know the methodology to know what they are ranking. Engineering is based 100% on institutional reputation. How do they do this? They ask the dean (or some other up and up) to name and rank 8 other peer universities. They tally the results and that’s it. Period. They make millions of dollars off of it. Here’s the kicker. Reputations of engineering programs that produce PhDs are based on the research they produce. So, as you can see, it has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of an undergraduate program.
I strongly agree with your premise though, there’s lots of good schools out there. No matter where you land, if you make the best of it, you will be happy and successful. If you don’t, you won’t be happy no matter where you land, Poly, MIT, UCLA or Podunk U.
I found out two days ago. Looked on my portal then received an email.Nutrition Science
Yes… Two days ago Nutrition Food Science
@stephrass, which east coast schools, just out of curiosity.
Yes! Accepted Nutrition
On those that were accepted into Nutrition/Food Science when did you find out? Still have not heard…
I still haven’t seen any child development acceptences, has anyone heard back from this major?
@eyemgh of course she doesn’t have acceptaces yet but pretty confident about BC…and was deferred at Yale to RD. Georgetown and Harvard are in the mix too. But she has a passion for both science and politics so all east coast schools she applied for a degree in government/politics or pre-law. So not really comparing the engineering programs out there:)
@stephrass, hard to beat the east coast if you want to be in government or politics. it’s a tightly cloistered group, largely distrusting of “outsiders.”
@eyemgh exactly what she is thinking. But it’s also very hard to leave so cal when you’re used to this beautiful weather and beaches!! She has a big decision to make! Lol IF she gets into those schools
Anyone has any news about architecture major?
If you’re an accepted Animal Science major what’re your stats?
Accepted by email two days ago for English major.
30 ACT and 4.25 CSU gpa for stats c:
Waiting for uc decisions…
How does the wait list process go? If you are wait listed when do you find out if you did or did not get in?
Sounds to me like another case of sour grapes
@santaclarita, In 2014 CP waitlisted 1598 students, 67 admitted. In 2013 there were 1603 waitlisted, 15 admitted. Most of those had moved on to other schools at that point, I remember reading less than 5 enrolled off of waitlist, but can’t find that reference now. You typically don’t get moved off waitlist till after May1st when figures are in and determined.
The waitlist is actually not a “list”, but rather a pool of applicants they’re still considering based on available space. So if there are open spots in your major, they will re-examine the waitlist pool and notify those who make the cut.
Second week in June people get “rejection” notices ending waitlist.
Do you know if info about waitlist status is sent next week to those that have applied?
I think it should be next week, especially if it follows the same time frame as last year.
