**OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO CLASS of 2019 Regular Decision** Thread

Any other aspiring biomed engineers holding out here? Some people with engineering majors at my school found out that they got in yesterday, so the portal would have released the admissions information on Monday. This is making me really sad…

Anyone here a business major?? really curious to see when they would let us know?? please someone reply……

I applied as a psychology major and still haven’t heard back…

I applied as a psychology major and still haven’t heard back…

If you look back through this thread I have seen some business majors and psychology majors receive acceptance but the admission office told me today that doesn’t necessarily mean a rejection if you haven’t heard yet and that they are still sending out acceptances at least for the next several weeks. Holding out hope myself - Ag-Food Science

@sam12223 My D has three friends that got into Business Major yesterday (found out on their portal). Two of them had 4.0+ and one had a 3.7 with 1700 on SAT! I wish you all the luck and hope you get acceptance soon. I’m really surprised people are getting in for their second choice major…it clearly states on the Cal Poly website that it is rarely considered…but I think most people would happily take their 2nd choice!

Look, people with medium grades don’t need to be worried.

Cal Poly accepted people with very high GPA and Scores first, so they can get to them before the UC’s can and other privates can.

http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo-admission-gpa-sat-act.htm

I mean, those scores^^ are not what cal poly is accepting right now as we saw on this forum. A lot of people I saw who got accepted in this forum are people who might have been accepted by other top privates and UC’s under reagents scholarship. Those with 4.2 and up GPA are all good, cal poly is a low ball for you, so stop freaking out!

This is the UC Admit Data for 2014, these numbers are surprising low.

THe Asterisk (*) means that these are the only holistic admission schools in UC system<<<<< The Asterisk also means that 8 semester of AP/Honor classes were used.

You really can’t predict UCLA and Berkeley acceptances because they are holistic schools…they look at everything and look at you as a person and chances of you succeeding in future…so thats why people with 3.7-3.8 GPA’s also get accepted and 4.4 GPA’s also get accepted in Berk and UCLA.

But hey! Some of you on this forum, you are gonna get into San Diego or SDSU, which is much better considering Qualcomm hires most from those two universities for fresh talent in California…so ya.

If you area tech guy…cal poly will get you as far as twitter, and right now, no one sees a future at twitter, not many investors think there is anything to it. The only thing that stops twitter from shutting down is that it has potential to expand due to 200 million plus users it has on its system. Unless they think of something to monetize on, cal poly’s influence on tech industry will be lowered.

Cal poly people do get jobs in silicon valley, but its harder for them to get inot those top tech companies that area on that list in the article from wired magazine.

Yes, the engineering admissions is competitive, but seriously, if you think about it, UC’s have a much nigher reputation.

UC system has shifted its focus from Berkeley to UCLA in last 5 years in terms of development. They are done with development of UCLA in terms of ramp up everything, from recruiting better professors to retaining top research talent and launching new programs and initiatives. Now they will shift their focus to UC San Diego and make it another top UC school in the US. UC system is smart, and they take a 5-7 year span, and develop each school one by one.

Next schools to be under development is UC San Diego. Then UC Santa Barbara, Irvine, and Davis will all be under continuous development from 2020 to 2030ish all simultaneously because all 3 schools are equally strong and weak in their own areas. They will be made stronger. As a brand, UC’s are better, everyone knows that.

When WE CLASS OF 2019 enter job market and are looking for those major promotions by the end of 2020 decade, we stand a better chance of promotion if we are a UC graduate from Irvine, SB, or Davis than Cal Poly if its simply by the school if your judged academically for promotions because by that time, those 3 schools will have an admit rate below 25%, or even below 20% for some majors. By that time, one of those 3 schools and San Diego will turn into a holistic application school and join berkeley and ucla in UC holistic school schools list.

I hope this helped and gave some of you a clear path!

UCLA was also asterisked…i forgot that.
I shaped the data into table format, but after posting it it became like that

@PleasantonCali‌ As much as I agree with most of what you said, I have to point out that the a Engineering school at SLO is ranked above UC’s on certain ranking sites. US news divides their rankings by universities with the highest degree offered a doctorate and a then with the highest degree offered a masters. On the 2nd list, SLO is ranked #7 in the country. All UC’s are on the other list. If you want to compare both types of universities, CollegeFactual compares them all together with SLO coming in above every UC and many top privates like USC. Take it for what it’s worth to you but SLO’s reputation in the engineering field is well-respected and a program that is known to get high paying jobs immediately upon graduation. Then factor in that the cost is rough 9k per year (+ housing) it’s not a bad deal!! Still a difficult choice though…my D will most likely be deciding between SLO, UCSB and USC on the west coast and then a few east coasts. Hard decision to make but nice to have those options!

Very helpful information!

I do wish Cal Poly would stop telling people that admissions decisions aren’t final yet, it’s cowardly because no one on the phone wants to tell someone they or their kid didn’t get in. If acceptances to a particular major have already occurred, then it’s done. I really wish they would notify rejections at the same time, instead of leaving people with false hope. D1 had been accepted a few years back but chose a different school. D2 has not been accepted this year, but doesn’t know it yet. Fortunately it isn’t a top choice for her, I made her apply. Applied ME, 4.1 CSU gpa (has over 20 semesters AP + Honors courses but didn’t max out CSU gpa because of a handful of Bs along the way and the artificial cap at 8 semesters), SAT 1400/1600. Pretty sure she maxed out the extra points for academic rigor, math classes through AP Calc BC, 4 years science including AP Physics, ECs, leadership and work experience hours related to major. Art and foreign language classes are in the mix too. Not surprised she didn’t get in because of the desirability/competitiveness of the program, but am surprised at people with lower stats that say they were accepted. Thought I’d share her stats as someone who wasn’t accepted, so others that get rejected realize how high the standards are for admission.

@santaclarita last year waitlist notification came out March 1st, there were no acceptances posted after March 1st. Rejections came out March 10th. Not sure if this year same, but that was last year.

Thanks - great insight and exactly what I was thinking. At this point I wish admissions would just let those that cal who haven’t gotten in we are done with our acceptances. I did call admissions on Friday and was told that the only department that is finished with acceptances is Music and Art (not sure of the exact majors) since a portfolio and audition were required. When I pushed back and said many of the other majors have been sending out acceptance and at this point is it better to move on and the response was not necessarily.

Any thoughts from last year’s experience with acceptances? At this point I am pretty sure it’s a done deal and those that have gotten in already received their acceptance… Doesn’t make sense for them to continue to send out acceptances after the fact…

Since acceptances are slowing down, I’m really looking forward to waitlist decisions since there’s still that much hope.

Stephan,

Engineering school at cal poly is not where close to UC’s

Cal Poly is ranked differently because it has the ranking of SCHOOLS THAT DO NOT HAVE A DOCTORATE DEGRADE OFFERED.

THAT’S^ Cal Poly ranking under,

UC’s are ranked under schools that DO OFFER DOCTORATE.

THe ranking in that sense of cal poly, is not really something to be proundd of since it doesnt even have international competitor, snd is not even close to UC’s in global rankings!

@stephrass When your a schools that is compared with other less capable schools, your gonna come out to the top if your cal poly.

@stephrass by less capable schools, i mean schools that don’t offer doctorate.

@stephrass Cal poly is still a good school, but no where close to top 6 UC’s in US national public school rankings and also in Global rankings.

Accepted yesterday forts student portal checked then an email received two days later. nutrition science
