When I spoke to admissions today they said they are still going through acceptances however not sure if they are just giving the standard “canned” response. Thoughts on Ag - Food Science, applied under ED got deferred to RD
Just checked the portal and I was accepted for econ…it said something about as long as I meet the following terms and conditions? Is that what it said for everyone?
Honestly, I am so shocked I was accepted. My stats are way below average and when applying I knew it was a long shot. Congrats to everyone else who heard back!
@Hlabs11 congratulations! Yes everyone who has been admitted says the same thing. You just have to maintain C or above the rest of the year and send transcripts with graduation date in June or July. I’m also in for Econ so see u in the fall!
I had roughly a CSU gpa of 3.2 and ACT of 27.
I am an OOS student and sent Cal Poly my first semester senior grades to show how I have been on an upward trend throughout HS.
Quite frankly, yes I do believe they are done accepting engineers. Based on what I have read on the CP Admissions site and other information people have provided on this thread, CP uses a selection criteria that gives points to applicants in various areas. Someone here reported that you get a specific amount of points for GPA, SAT/ACT scores, etc. The higher GPA and SAT/ACT scores, the higher the points you get. Then you get points for the number of semesters that you have taken math, English, etc. I don’t really know the complete criteria, then you get a few points, not much, for EC hours and work hours related to your major. Someone here wrote that anyone who has taken calculus gets a huge amount of points so, if this is true, then this explains why it is possible for a student with a lower GPA and SAT/ACT score but with a lot of semesters of math, including calculus or AP calculus can get accepted over a student with a higher GPA and SAT/ACT scores but not as many semesters of math.
I am assuming that after they receive all of the applications they run them through some sort of system that calculates each student’s score based on that formula. Then I also assume that each college and each department subsequently gets the results for all of the applicants in each major. At this point I assume again that each department takes those results and starts entering “Acceptances” on the portal for all the top scores until all the spaces are filled. For example, I believe that last year for Mechanical Engineering they received over 3,000 applications for about 180 spots (or something like that). So the Mech E department would accept the top 180 of the 3000 based on the scores that their algorithm spews out.
So, if my assumptions are correct, then yes, I believe they have sent out all acceptances because it makes no sense for them to get the results of the top applicants and then slowly, randomly, send out acceptances every several days and spread them over weeks. Also, they would have to first have the results of ALL of their applicants before deciding to start sending out acceptances. Otherwise it would not be fair. Why send out acceptances when you are still not done reviewing all of the applicants. Would any one of us give out an award without first having looked at all the candidates? No. We read and look at all the applications, we set aside the top contenders, the we review the top contenders again and make a decision.
I don’t see how doing it any other way makes sense for a school that does not review applications holistically.
That said, I do believe that the majority of students apply broadly and thus they will ALL have a school to attend in the Fall of 2015 and I think they will all be happy where ever they go. All the high achieving, hard working students will shine and excel where ever they go.
@Arriba I saw a lot of mechanical and aerospace but only a few electrical and biomed. Maybe I’m just holding out hope, but doesn’t it seem strange that acceptances for other colleges are trickling in? We engineers need some love too
@Stressed4lyfe, I think that each college is recording acceptances on the student’s portal all at once or at least on the same day over a period a few hours. I do not believe that they trickle them in over days or weeks, but rather the posts on this thread trickle in as students and parents check the portal. Remember, no one here has reported that they got an email even after finding out on the portal that they got in. So an engineer who checked the portal on Wednesday could very well report here that “she/he just got in.” and everyone thinks that a acceptances for engineering are still rolling out. But the portal does not specify date and time of acceptance so students report that they got in on the day they found out.
So does that mean I got rejected? I applied as a computer engineer but when I checked the portal it still says that no determination has been made at this time.
@phantom233 I think that right now that would be a safe assumption. I think that a few Computer Engineers reported admission on this thread on Monday or shortly thereafter.
@StevenToCollege
I applied ED for civil engineering and was deferred, and obviously didn’t get in for regular decision either. My alternate is city and regional planning.
Sounds like the acceptance are at the tail end if people are hearing about getting in under alternate majors…
Anyone have any feedback on how it happened last year and what the timing was after the acceptances came out before wait list and rejections starting coming?
