**OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO CLASS of 2020 Regular Decision** Thread

Make sure you guys join the Facebook page and make a room surf profile! Congrats to those who were accepted!

Hello! I applied for Computer Engineering and I was accepted with conditional admission!

CSU GPA: 4.27
ACT: 30 - Math, 32 - Reading
Cumulative ACT - 29

However, I have one question. I am confused with the concept of"conditional admission" and I was just wondering what does that mean and did everyone else receive this same notice? Congratulations to everyone else as well!

My son applied to SLO with Mechanical Engineering as his 1st choice of major and Physics as his 2nd choice. With an MCA around 4300, I expect that ME is a long shot. I am not sure about Physics. Does the first round of regular decision admissions only include 1st choice majors? If so, does anyone know when second choice majors are considered?

@cpham7780 just means keep your grades up or they have the right to rescind your acceptance

Also you in state or OOS?

@swimkarenna how do we join the facebook group?

Are people being notified over the weekend or just finding out after 2 days?

Ate notifications going out over the weekend?

@Baylorpoly they will start again on tuesday

Anyone know the process if you are wait listed and how long you can wait to get admitted under that status?

@humanacidtrip I’m from OOS.
Does everyone recieve a conditional admission? I feel like that means I wasn’t their first choice applicant for acceptance then?

@cpham7780 Yes everyone receives a conditional admission. Nothing to worry about. Just don’t get grades below Cs and you’re chillin.

You accept Cal Poly’s offer of conditional admission through the Student Center on MyCalPoly using the ‘Accept/Decline’ link by 5pm PST on January 15, 2016 (Early Decision admits). Regular Decision admits must respond by May 1, 2016. Note: Once you ‘accept’ our offer of admission, you are certifying you understand and agree to these terms and conditions and that you are making a commitment to attend Cal Poly. Additionally, failure to accept Cal Poly’s offer of admission by the deadline will result in your admission being cancelled.

@cpham7780. The majority of colleges accept you as a provisional admit, especially UC’s and CSU’s since you self-report grades and do not send transcripts. As posted above, you want to maintain your current grades, no D’s or F’s and make sure all self-reported classes and grades on your application, match your final year end transcript. Congratulations!!

@sddanr: In the past, SLO has not considered 2nd choice or alternate majors, however last year a few applicant were accepted into their 2nd choice major. This may have been due to being a competitive applicant but no available spots in their 1st choice major, while some spots could have been available for 2nd choice major? Not sure but hopefully this is the case this year.

From SLO website:::

Selection to all Cal Poly majors is competitive and we have more qualified applicants than available new student spaces. Therefore, Cal Poly rarely considers alternate or ‘second choice’ majors.

Do yiu know the process if you are waitlisted and how long you can wait to get admitted under that status?

Thanks at @Gumbymom. I think I read that before, but forgot. :">
I know that each school is different. UCSD said that they do not consider majors when deciding admittance to the University - evidently assignment of major at UCSD is determined after they decide who will be admitted.

Since my son has other choices for Mechanical Engineering, I do not think he would consider Physics at SLO. It would be better for that spot to go to someone who has Physics as their first choice anyway.

Congratulations to all that have been admitted!

@humanacidtrip Which CENG Dept did you apply to??

@Baylorpoly: If you are on the waitlist, you have the option to opt in or not. If you are accepted off the waitlist, you should be notified by May 15 according to the website for Freshman. Since they may not have all the enrollment numbers in until the deadline of May 1, you would still need to enroll at another school.

From the SLO Website;

Wait List
Cal Poly also utilizes a Wait List process for outstanding freshman and transfer applicants who are not selected through the regular selection process. Those offered Wait List status are notified they will be considered for admission again should additional openings occur in their declared major. Freshman candidates on Wait List will be notified of the final decision regarding their Wait List status by May 15th, while transfer candidates will be notified by July 15th.

@humanacidtrip @Gumbymom Thank you for your answers! I appreciate it!

@MomOD4 software!

Thanks @Gumbymom! Already accepted at Baylor. That is why I am Baylorpoly. Makes sense to waitlist as those accepted are waiting for UC decisions and many accepted students don’t enroll.
