dartmouth was one of those places where i applied but never gave serious thought about going…and am ending up there. i am not saying that brown is better than dartmouth or vice versa, but my reasons are primarily non-academic and personal.

though the d-plan is great and so are the study-abroad programs, i’m not really into dartmouth’s greek life or the outdoors. and i’m quite sure that brown has as much to offer in terms of academic quality with the additional plus of a more variegated social environment (as opposed to some 50% of the student pop. being involved in frats).

brown and dartmouth attract two vastly different demographics. this may be a generalization, but at least from experience, the former gets a lot of liberals, kids willing to explore and take advantage of the open curriculum. the latter has a lot of cross-admits with top LACs like williams/amherst/middlebury, where focus is on intimate class setting and outdoor activities. not to say that these are the only people who apply or are currently enrolled, but i find myself identifying much better with the brown alumni and students i have met.

hope this puts your W.T.F. why dartmouth question into some perspective.

lol the W.T.F. was just a bit of an exageration they are both phenominal schools. Ironically enough I too applied to the school I am enrolling i, Duke, without any serious thought or consideration. To be honest I remember saying out loud “I don’t care if I get accepted here or not” because I planned on getting into an Ivy. And even more ironically the school I applied ED for and was dying to get into was Dartmouth. That was more the reasoning behind my comment.

While Dartmouth (and Duke) are both frat and business orientated, they still offer great opprotunities for those who wish to explore their own interests and personality. Each school has its own ways, and I remember hearing things (on all of my 3 separate trips) that they have programs that will fund pretty much anything you put in writing that isn’t rediculous. Its a great school, but if Brown is still your best choice good luck!

I’m probably better suited at a school like Duke or Dartmouth with their finance focus and conservatism, but at the same time I want a school that is closer then 9 and a half hours away!

btw if they don’t tell us by the end of may, chances are a rejection or at best a deferral of a year to be Brown 2014. There is no way I’m waiting a year tho.

i too would be overjoyed if i could attend Brown, even a year later (though in the waitlist letter, it said they won’t allow you to defer matriculation if you’re a waitlist admit, so is it even possible that that would happen?). i’m actually considering asking my parents if i can go to india (my mom is from india, dad is um…haha well he doesnt talk about it, he’s white from brooklyn, so i’m multi-racial, anyway) to work with one of my aunts who does community service there. i think it would be a great experience for me to learn more about the culture (ive only been there once) and the language…however, pinklady and handwashonly, i dont think my parents would like that too well either…but, since it would be a chance for my dream school, and i wouldnt just be sitting at home…they might go for it…

Last year, the waitlist letter said the same thing, that if accepted you couldn’t defer. However, in the summer they decided to accept a handful of students only on the condition that they defer a year. I don’t know why – but that’s what happened.

I was called today with the news that I’ve been taken off of the wait list. Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting; it all works out in the end! =)

Congrats!
Yeah, I’m wondering about that too^ It would be nice if they’ll call no matter how secluded/far you live…or even email…does anyone know for sure?

people who have been admitted-
when (in the day) did you receive your calls? on your landlines or cell phones? have any of you heard on the weekend? are any of you from new york?
thanks and congratulations.

I was never called directly by Brown. Well, I may have been but I probably deleted the voice mail on accident because I never listen to them, oops. My interviewer was e-mailed directly by the Brown admissions office about two days ago and he forwarded me the news.

Thus, these are the times/dates I know: my counselor was called about grades early last week. I picked my official packet up in the mail today and the letter was dated the 19th. I have until the 26th to reply about whether I am matriculating or not (which I am!).

Thank you everyone. I’m from Maui, Hawaii. Brown called me on my house phone but didn’t leave any messages. They called on Monday in the morning and in the early afternoon (my time) but I didn’t answer the call. I ended up calling the cell phone number when I saw it was from Rhode Island and left a message on my regional officer’s cell. I received my package the next day and it was also dated the 19th.

still waiting here too. =(
tried emailing the admissions office two days ago to ask about how many waitlistees they’re accepting but havent received any replies yet… hmph…

Hey guys, I am also a fellow Brown waitlistee. Havent heard anything yet It seems like Brown had just taken off a small group of students. Which should mean that others probably won’t hear anything unless those students respond to their offers. And, seeing how it is Memorial Day on Monday, I don’t think other WL students should expect anything anytime soon?
