@Lindsy the thread you linked proves that there is no such thing as good deferral/bad deferral, as people got in after receiving both.

I just clicked on “application status” after someone else said their decision was on there and the “check decision” button came up and it said that I was accepted!

got defered this was my email

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2012. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, it is still good news. Your application is one of a group that remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than mid-April, 2012.

A person from my school just got accepted. Everyone, there’s still hope!

C’mon Gabba…We know you’re probably busy celebrating, but can you tell those of us who haven’t heard anything yet what time you received acceptance e mail?

@jawbreaker it’s right next to the view credentials link. It’s a little bigger than both the view credentials and verification link.

If you get accepted, this is what it’ll look like:

gabba-- where did you view it on your wolverine access? just curious because i can still get into mine, but not sure where i’d look for it…

application status–> view decision

Geez… now i need to wait till april? thats an another long journey

Literally all i’ve seen today are deferrals, so scared for my friends, are they still sending out acceptances do we think, or were all the acceptances sent yesterday.

Hmm. On my WA I have no “Check Decision” button. There’s View Application Data and View Credentials, but that’s it… So I guess I still have no decision.

I got accepted! Congrats to everyone else and good luck to everyone still waiting!

Let’s face it; based on the feedback on this blog, this is not a numbers game. I had SAT 2250+; 3.83 UW GPA; 4.11 W GPA; 50% of my classes have been AP/Honors; 5’s on AP tests; 750+ on all SATIIs; took summer classes at UC Berkeley; varsity sports; excellent teacher recs; top 5% at a very competitive high school; and excellent ECs. Yet, I get deferred for LSA undeclared? I don’t think these stats are mind blowing or even Ivy level, but they should be in the top 5-10% nationwide. I believe there is much more randomness to this selection process. I’m sorry, I don’t believe that any small goup of human beings could review 50,000+ essays and sufficently discern whether one person is a better student than another. One must look at GPA, test scores, course rigor and the overall high school quality to get a sense of how well the student will do in college.

With The UC system budget problems, I was really looking for UM to be my #1 public school choice. Now, with being deferred for EA, I have to rethink what this says about the fairness and accuracy of the UM app review process.

Well yeah it’s a crapshoot, what else would you expect? They’re ‘good’ schools, but I don’t think there’s any denying the fact that funds are tight, time is limited on these EA decisions and they can only take so many students. I’d take someone with semi-high stats and some personality over a 2400sat schoolwork drone any day.
