@thesunshine
Pretty sure there’s no correlation since I was accepted and submitted mine on October31 as well. But best of luck to all those deferred or haven’t heard back!!!

thesunshine no that’s not how it works. They don’t have some system of looking at EARLY Early Action students. They don’t just accept the best of the earliest ones. they look at everybody once the deadline hits

@thesunshine I submitted my application on November 1st and got in. I don’t think that’s a deciding factor at all.

im pretty sure it was since most of the kids who were accepted were the ones who applied in mid-october and the ones deferred applied late

I applied October 28 and was admitted.

Your SATs will never make up for your GPA. Those other kids that are “less qualified than you” probably have 3.8s and 3.9s. Your 2320 doesn’t make you more qualified.

Well maybe the GPA is lower due to the fact that he had one bad year. If you show it through your results on the SAT then I’m sure they’ll understand.

I applied on November 1st at 11:55pm and I was admitted. Heh. Yes, I know that’s terrible. :D

And doesn’t Michigan take a holistic view? So the stats aren’t the only determining factor. Someone with a high SAT or GPA isn’t necessarily going to have the most involved ECs or passionate essays. So you can’t base it off of just SAT scores and GPAs.

I heard that Michigan does not deny any EA applicants…is that true?

I got the “good” email (even though I think that’s totally bs) about being uniquely valuable earlier. Applying for LSA with a 29 on the ACTs and a 3.23 UW, so my expectations were pretty low. taking 2 APs this year, probably good recs, in my opinion good essays, and a bunch of extra currics. I expected to be rejected but it seems they don’t really reject EA.

on another note, I really do think most of the decision releases are random. I only heard of acceptances on Friday, but I heard of both deferrals and acceptances Saturday. they probably won’t send anything Sunday, but I genuinely believe they are releasing randomly until the 23rd. I know someone who got in last year on the last possible day… seems pretty random to me so don’t be discouraged if you think you have a good chance-- you’re probably right!

I have a question though: because I got deferred, when they re-review my application does it show up that I had previously applied EA and was deferred, or am I just thrown in with the RD batch?

does being deferred basically mean we’re rejected since the chances of getting in deferred are really low?

Ok, so to my understanding there are different types of deferral letters correct? Then is this one the best deferral letter you can get, meaning that u have the best chances of a deferee in getting into Michigan in the Reg. Decision pool. Here is the letter that I got:

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2012. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, it is still good news. Your application is one of a group that remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than mid-April, 2012.

Please refer to the website [Information for Deferred Students | University of Michigan Office of Admissions](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/deferred) for FAQ’s about the admission process and what to do next. Strong fall semester or second trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward your fall semester or second trimester grades when they become available.

Because you are in this select group, we hope your interest in Michigan continues, and we will keep you informed of our progress. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

Sincerely,

Theodore L. Spencer

Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director

I think that is the best deferral letter you can get but I’m not sure. Second, I know the acceptance rate of Michigan is somewhere around 51%, does that include EA applicants or just Regular Decision. Lastly, I have all A and A+ so far in my classes, and I am 100% positive that my grades will be all A’s by the end of the sem. So when I turn in my grades do u think I will have a good shot of getting into Michigan from being deferred based on grades for 1st sem senior year and getting the “best” deferral letter possible.

My 1st sem senior grades:
IB English HL II -A
IB Theory of Knowledge - A+
Health Science Technology(this is a class im taking for tech and speech credit, its like a advanced health class for those choosing to go into the medical field) - A
IB Chemistry HL II- A
AP Human Geography -A
AP Calculus BC - A+
IB Biology HL II- A-
IB Advanced Spanish II-A

Although there are A,A+,A- these grades are only used for class rank purposes. As long as the class is an A of some sort so for example I have an A+ it just goes as an A considering unweighted gpa and weighted gpa.

Thank you for any help and support, it is greatly appreciated. I am very sad about being deferred from michigan, I thought for sure I was going to get in but I guess it is what it is. Can people also be rejected no deferred from michigan just as a side note, I am just curious about that.
Thanks

I still haven’'t heard anything!!! GEEZ, DOES THIS MEAN I WAS REJECTED!?!?!

@gtman…Still no word here either! If Monday means rejection day, why doesn’t Michigan lay it on the line: Friday-acceptances, Sat-deferrals, Monday-rejections. I still find it hard to believe that it would work that way. Keep your head up!

haven’;t heard anything yet :(

I’m still waiting. My only hope lies on the fact that I am in state and my WA doesn’t show any sort of link.

Deferred from LSA … 3.75 UW GPA… 31 ACT… Lots of community service.

This was my email:
