*Official Class of 2016 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread*

@oscarboy i got it at about 7pm last night

For all those kids waiting to hear - I know the waiting is the worst part. My son was in the same boat last year. He was a double legacy and did not receive the email notification until I think 11 am on December 23. I as a nervous parent was on the phone with the school daily - and it is my belief that the emails are released in no specific order. If you call the school they will let you know if a decision has been made on your application…and if the email went out. So you might want to call it was definitely much easier knowing that I did not have to look for the “Email” because a decision had not been made.

Hope this helps - good luck - its a great school. Go Blue

finally got an email last night from umich around 8pm. i actually had just left the house to get my mind off of potentially being rejected, and checked my email one last time driving… when i saw “Your Michigan Admissions Decision”, i basically freaked out, drove to the nearest church, pulled over and prepared myself. i got deferred but it felt SO much better than rejected! my email was:

Thank you for your freshman application to the University of Michigan. After an initial individualized and comprehensive review of your application, we have determined that we will need additional information in order to make a final decision. We will not re-evaluate your application file until after our regular decision deadline of February 1, 2012. We need this additional information and time to ensure that we give your application the best possible review. We will notify you of a final decision on your application by mid-April.

The quality of grades earned in academic courses is one of several critical factors taken into consideration in evaluating a student’s competitive admissibility. To give your application a final evaluation, we will need your fall semester or first trimester grades. Because it is important that we receive these grades as soon as possible, please request to have a PDF of your grades sent from the issuing institution to our office via an e-transcript vendor or to ecredentials@umich.edu. If your counselor sent the initial School Report for your application through The Common Application online portal, they will need to complete the 2011-2012 MidYear Report using the same method. Otherwise, please ask your high school counselor to fax a report of these grades to our office at 734-936-0740.

Be sure your U-M ID --------- is on all materials submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

We appreciate your interest in the University of Michigan and look forward to receiving the information requested. If you have specific follow-up questions, please visit http://umich.custhelp.com or phone 734-764-7433. We look forward to reviewing your completed application and appreciate your interest in the University of Michigan.

Go Blue!

my GPA wasn’t the best (but i’m on an upward trend and have all A’s) so i assume that’s the main reason as to why i wasn’t accepted… this deferral doesn’t SEEM horrible, is this really the “bad” one? i got a 4.0 last quarter and will probably get the same this quarter which should bump my career GPA up to about a 3.93, shouldn’t that get me in? :(

My son was accepted to LSA with a 31 ACT, 3.9 GPA and unspectacular EC’s, although he is heavily involved in music. He did get a 4.0 his junior year taking 3 AP and 2 honors classes. He has gotten only one B (in his freshman year). He goes to a instate public who typically sends about 50 or so kids to U of M. Most of his friends got accepted, who are also involved in music. My son did spend alot of time on his essays (he had them edited by his AP english teacher three times!))and I thought they were unique to him. My niece’s boyfriend who had similar stats, and whose dream school is U of M was deferred. He was crushed.

I am mystified as to U of M’s criteria for selecting students, although they seem to count GPA very heavily.

so I was accepted to LSA OOS. when exactly do you think we will get to hear back about financial aid…? Because I will be needing that…:)

Accepted

Objective:

SAT:
CR 670
M 730
W 710
(Nothing flashy, basically)
SAT II: Math I-740
Chem-650
GPA: W 4.35
Rank: Top 5%
Courseload: Mostly Honors courses

Subjective:

Essays: I thought I did fine.
Counselor Rec: She knows me on a personal level, I’m sure that that worked out
Teacher Rec: I’m assuming it was OK

EC:
Quite a few, don’t feel like listing. Soz

@Phenomiracle were you accepted today or yesterday? :)

Hey can anyone answer my questions on the last page please?

Accepted!(:
LSA 2012
ACT - 31
GPA - 3.9
Pretty interesting EC’s
Okay essays
And some pretty good letters of rec (i think.)

@thatdesichick & phenomiracle…accepted today or yesterday?

I don’t think they’re sending any decisions today, but I could be wrong. In any case, I still haven’t received anything.

@jawbreaker…not necessarily a bad thing for either one of us!

Bummer
My son just got deferred…LSA in state. Goes to one of the top high schools in the country.
GPA 3.8
ACT 34
sat 2 math2 800

recs good
ec average

and he is deferred.

wait… are there decisions coming out today?

lindsy- Not sure when the e mail was sent…but it just showed up very recently.

@radgeoff that is really surprising he got deferred!!!

I am kind of shocked. But i am encouraged that a lot of people that get the “good deferral” letter get in.

Is he applying to Ivies?? Did he spend a lot of time on his essays and show interest? Especially with him being in state, that is really shocking. IMO there must be some significant weakness in his app, because academically he certainly seems qualified.

did his letter ask for 7th semester grades?
