*Official Class of 2016 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread*

@oscarboy - accepted friday night, just saw this thread lol but i wouldn’t lose hope if you haven’t heard back yet! just think of it like you made it past the first wave of deferrals!(:

@jawbreaker and @oscarboy It looks like we are all in the same boat at this point… all my friends were deferred yesterday (except one) and I am the only one who is waiting to hear! I have 2 more exams on monday, and I just can’t focus! Let me know when you guys hear back, and I will do the same.

yes, he is, not early action, but regular decision. He did not list that on his app to UM though.
We visited, and he did show interest… he had a friend proofread his essays…she got in EA to Yale…so i think they were mistake free/clean and done pretty well
He goes to an all IB high school…that places well every year.
He must have botched something in his app.
I am certainly biased…but I don’t get it.

lindsy- no it did not…just said he was still being considered.

Anyone think writing letters would do any good if we don’t here back by February? Or would that just look annoying?

Is it easier getting in deferred in the regular pool than being accepted Early action. According to my schools naviance and usnews the percent acceptance rate in reg is 51% for michigan. Does this include Early at all or is completely separate.

I think the 51% includes all applications. Keep in mind that a lot of under-qualified people apply to Michigan for the sake of applying and right now they’re just admitting the obvious choices.

yes rangeoff that is the good deferral. i got that too  is he LSA?

@lindsy-yep LSA chem. What about you?

i see so jaico22 will they admit the less obvious ones in reg decision or i guess the under qualified people. So does that mean its easier getting in rd?

I cant say for sure but that’s what it looks like.

i am kinesiology, but i have been trying to convince the people on this thread that people in LSA have the ‘good’ deferral letter too, so you are proof of that :)

Just looked at the stats thread…depressing. Lots of people accepted with considerably lower stats…oh well. He was not going to make a decision until all the regular decision answers come back anyway. for me…I just wanted to get an accept under our belts. lol. Would have made me feel better. Now at least a few more months of stress.

@radgeoff
It’s likely that you’ll hear back earlier than that.

How many of you guys are actually buying into this “good deferral” vs “bad deferral” idea?

yeah people with that letter usually hear back within a week-2 months

Is it possible that some of us can be accepted still even though we received the deferral letters already if say some ED kids withdrew their apps from Michigan?

I’m still confused about 7th semester grades. I understand that everyone–accepted, applying, deferred, etc-- has to send them, but does anyone know how important they actually are?

I haven’t done fantastically so far this year due to the stress of apps, and I’m scared that they won’t help my deferral. my WA also doesn’t say anything about the grades (and some report their’s do), plus my deferral was apparently the second best one (“uniquely valuable” etc). any ideas?

well @withtwol’s he obviously got it and he is in LSA… i tried to tell you guys.

not everyone has to send them… the accepted people only have to send their ‘final transcript’ in. and only some deferred people have to send them in.

Lindsy, I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just wondering how much stock we can put in the differences.

I know I could probably find it deep within this thread, but could you tell me how you classify my deferral:

"After multiple individualized and comprehensive evaluations of your application to the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology for Fall 2012, we believe that you have something uniquely valuable to contribute to our campus. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, your application has been deferred for a final decision until a later date.

Your application will be re-evaluated, and a final decision will be made based on how your credentials, academic achievements, and interest demonstrated in an area of Kinesiology as a career contribute to the composition and quality of this year’s freshman applicant pool. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than mid-April, 2012.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues, and you have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful senior year.

Sincerely,

Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director"
