*Official Class of 2016 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread*

Are they sending any out today??

Yes they are. I called the admissions office this morning and they said they would be sending out all decisions until the 23rd this week, including today. I saw a couple of facebook posts from people that got accepted today as well…

ya someone i know called up admissions and they said that apparently all decisions are out. so unless they are lying about it, everyone shd hear today one way or the other

@bystander…not true. The automated message on Admissions phone says all decisions are out BUT…when I got a live person, she told me (like Aeriss said) that decisions are coming all this week until the 23rd. Don’t worry if you don’t hear anything by tonight!

ok thanks!

still waiting myself guys… not too much longer I hope!

any1 get the official letter today who got accepted?

Anyone found out today?

ACCEPTED:
I found out on friday december 16th at around 8 PM and I’m from northern Jersey

I have a 1970 math:720 writing:650 reading:600
I have GREAT ec’s including an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
My essay was good and my supplement essay was average but very specific to michigan.
I have a 4.1 UW gpa
4 APs with high scores on all of them
I’m top ten percent of my class

Little brother was deferred…has a 4.0 (unweighted), 30 ACT, in-state, legacy. Another kid from his school was accepted with a 3.28 and 28 ACT. What the heck is going on here?

I think some of the confusing deferrals may be a byproduct of the higher number of applications due to the Common App (last year’s applicants saw the same issues). Since U of M has a much larger pool of applicants to draw from, they have the ability (on their part) to pick and choose specific attributes to fill in a “jigsaw puzzle” class makeup…much the same as highly sought after non-Ivy’s like Duke, Stanford, etc.

Since they have so many applicants that are extremely strong based on pure stats (GPA and test scores) they can defer many of those students knowing that they can admit some of them at a later date and still get a high stat average for the students that make up their yield. In the meantime…they can admit a certain number of lower stat (although solid nonetheless) students who may have particular characteristics which U of M desires to round-out their “diversity” factor.

Unfortunately, what that means is what has been seen here…many high stat students getting deferrals while seeing or hearing about kids with lesser stats getting accepted. And having to potentially wait for several weeks or months to get a final decision (some of which will be unhappy ones) doesn’t make it any easier.

It’s hard to not take a deferral personally, especially when students whom you consider (on the surface at least) to be less deserving are getting accepted. But perhaps those students were the one-legged flautist child of a deaf lesbian couple and also speaks fluent Inuit…just what they needed to “round out” the class of 2016. It sucks…but try to hang in there and stay strong. Some of you will eventually get accepted, and those who don’t will succeed elsewhere. In any case…don’t cut off a leg trying to be more attractive to U of M. But the flute might be a good plan…

ACCEPTED!!! Today at 2:00pm!!

CONGRATS gtman! Still no word here…:-(

just keep waiting oscar… you will hear soon enough!!!

Same with me Oscar :frowning: its so stressful

Can anyone who was accepted or rejected see their decision on wolverine access?

My decision (admitted) shows up on Wolverine Access in a “view decision” link.
Someone else asked this, but no one answered: has anyone received their letters in the mail yet?

^^ did the link appear immediately when you got the email or it took sometime? no email yet here

Were you able to see it before you got the email?

Nope I got the e-mail Friday and was able to view my decision on WA on Sunday, I believe.
