Awaiting decision of scholarship and hopefully GAP application

backward reference = Post # 77

12/12/12: We are all thrilled and excited for DD who was admitted to Brown University, and also the PLME (Brown’s guaranteed medicine or direct BA/MD). The ED result is binding, and since DD did not seek financial-aid, per the early decision agreement with Brown University, we shall immediately be withdrawing from all parts of her Univeristy of Pittsburgh application whether currently active or already concluded, namely:[ul]
[]Admission to Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences - Pre-Med major
[]Acceptance into the University Honors College
[]Award of the PITT Scholar full-tutition scholarship
[]Invitation from the Chancellor to apply for the “Chancellor’s Scholarship”, including the already completed/submitted application
[li]Invitation from Pittsburgh School of Medicine to apply for the “Guaranteed Admisison Program”, including the partially completed/submitted in-flight application[/li][/ul]
PITT is a great school, and we are extremely grateful for the award of full-tution, and the opportunties to compete for the prestigious Chancellors and highly selective GAP-medicine through inviations. D’s aim was to get through both, but we will never know if she could have or not… We hope that D’s very early withdrawal opens up the slots for pre-med, HC, full-tuition merit award for other deserving candidates. Similarly, the competition for Chancellors and GAP-med now become available for an additional candidate still in the pipeline.

To all Pitt GAP-med’ers: PITT School of Medicine is really top-flight, and GAP is among the best of the non-accelerated BA/MD programs. DD’s very short-list was: Brown/PLME, Rice/Baylor MSP, Case Western PPSP, and PITT GAP. Possible UG full-ride would have made PITT compelling, but Brown PLME was simply better place for her goals (double majoring in liberal arts) and pursuing Rhodes. Sure, $$ and prestige were considerations, but it was “D’s choice” which won out, especially given the 8-year committment. D’s ED choice was 90% fit and only 10% prestige factor. In any case, the Brown PLME ED process preempted her from having to go through addtional gates of selection for interview, and actual admission decision - at PITT or R/B or CWRU.

Brief stats can be found on an earlier post in this very thread (#77). If anyone wishes for more detail or has a question please use the PM channel and not post them here (won’t be visiting frequently, and do not wish to add needless noise here).

Congratulations PLMEdad, I have been paying attention to your threads for this application season closely, your screen name matches your DD’s achievement, this tells me both of you must be delightful for the result, wish you and DD well.
