Congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to those deferred!

@shady4pres did you find out yet? that’s kind of weird if you haven’t, but don’t worry, more will probably come out later today or tomorrow!

no… most likely tomorrow

My daughter still hasn’t heard anything yet either.

It seems that applicants to Engineering are much more likely to have been deferred this year than ones to LSA.

Engineering is more difficult to get into than LSA, so that makes sense.

Still nothing here either. I really want this wait to be over…

My daughter hasn’t heard anything yet either.

Has anyone heard of anyone being flat out declined?
Or is that what we should be expecting if we’ve not heard yet?

I have read pretty much all the posts on this thread since the decisions started coming out… I find it so interesting to see the stats of those accepted vs. those deferred. My son was accepted to Engineering (already posted his stats) from OOS. Obviously, I think his stats are fabulous, but so are thousands of other kids. Some that were deferred appeared more qualified if you were to base it only on technical “stats”, many that were accepted appeared less qualified, again if looking only at technical stats. Clearly, there was something they were looking for in the EA accepted kids that may not jump right out in their “official” stats. My son has no “hooks” to speak of, we never visited, and he has done NOTHING related to engineering in his EC’s. I feel certain he had outstanding rec letters, and I think his essays were pretty decently written and relevant, if not all that creative. While I do understand how you would be disappointed and perplexed at your decision, I do take offense at the notion that because you deem yourself “over” qualified you were deferred because you were “too good”. As a previous poster said, UM is a public university that must be transparent in it’s admissions process and policies. Perhaps your arrogant attitude came through in your application? I think UM obviously wants well rounded kids who are not only smart but have varied interests and involvement in activities that are not solely academic. All kinds of factors come into play that may not be pinpointed so easily from basic scores and GPA numbers. I feel certain many of you who were deferred will be walking the halls of UM one day, and if you aren’t, then it probably was just not meant to be and you WILL find someplace that is the perfect fit for you.

For those of you who still have heard nothing from U of M, do you consider yourselves strong candidates or is U of M a bit of a stretch for you? My daughter has still not heard and U of M is definitely a stretch school for her. I’m just wondering if rejections are planned in the next day or so. If all those who have received silence consider U of M a reach, that seems possible.

ludlowneck… from what I have read, it seems UM rarely does outright rejections in the EA pool.

Accepted, although I won’t attend.

D was accepted to LSA Friday.
OOS WI/4.0 UW/35(36/36/36/33)/2280(720/790/770) both tests one sitting/NMSF. ECs mostly lots of music, plays several instruments so in everything from pit/pep band/local university youth orchestra and wind ensemble/school jazz band, etc. 8 APs, math thru calcBC. Not very ‘sciency’ though, first science AP this yr. EnvSc LOL. Guess she wouldn’t have made it into engineering.

deferred from lsa friday

Some real shockers at son’s in-state high school Friday night, some acceptances not expected and some deferrals not expected. And so it begins.
