“Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Eh…Safety school…”

While I am happy to see that you got in, someone with ONLY a 3.77 uw GPA should NEVER look at Michigan as a “safety school.” There have been many students with better stats than yours who have been deferred.

It’s also not like You destroyed the sats a 2210 is good, but not spectacular

rjkofnovi:

Hahah, I think you were talking to me, not gcjames.

Yes, it is a fantastic school, and I agree that it is more of a target school rather. At the time I thought it was safety just because Parchment gave me 95% chance of getting in. And I know that it quite a superficial aspecct to look at, but it was what gave me the minds set that it was a safety school.

And the people who have better stats and got deferred: most likely because the admission committee just didn’t have enough time to look at all of them, or had weak essays. I am sure that they will get in soon enough.

Anyone else get a merit scholarship?

“Hahah, I think you were talking to me, not gcjames.”

Yes, my apologies to gcjames. You were a match for Michigan wolferber. Best of luck wherever you end up going to school. :-)

lauren32–did you get word already about merit scholarship?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/michigan-2017/1436847-merit-scholarships.html

I heard about scholarships too!

@ohmydd95 yes, received it in the mail today.

Thanks for that info, lauren32. It looks like the ones who have responded so far are all in-state. It looked to me like there is a lot more oppty for merit aid for in state so it will be interesting to see when OOS awards are received.

My son received a merit-based scholarship, is instate and #1 in his class. I think the scholarship is due to class rank, as prior valedictorians who have attended U of M have been given this scholarship ($1,500. for the first year - not much, but we will take it!).
