** Official Class of 2017 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

Anyone know when deferred applicants hear back?

I believe it depends. They usually admit from february to april depending on who they’re most interested in xD. Its weird but its uMich so ppl won’t complain

I know LSA students were notified already if they were recommended to apply for the honors program, but has anyone from College of Engineering heard about the honors program?

What’s the honors program? I got a postcard about something Top scholars inviting me to UM sometime, but that’s about it  No idea what’s going on here… I got into CoE too

I got deferred with a 4.0 and a 28 and 7 ap classes, editor of the yearbook and on NHS. Ap classes include bc calc and macro micro economics took junior year as well as us and world history stats language and 5 years of Japanese. I got the good deferral letter and got a 4.44 this semester which I am sending. What are my chances?

Instate or out of state?

In state, from the school that sends more kids to Michigan than any other school in the world

has anyone heard recently (as in, sometime this month)?

Umichfan955,

when you say ‘I got deferred with a 4.0 and a 28 and 7 ap classes’, was your GPA, UW? If no, what’s your UW GPA?

Aero aero it was weighted my UW is a 3.82. I have all honors and ap classes though

Michigan does not look at weighted GPA and they also recalculate the GPA by making all B+ and B- the same as a B for all letters and then they round to the nearest tenth which could have easily made your GPA a 3.7. While this is still a good GPA it’s unfortunately not always good enough for Michigan EA, but that’s not to say you won’t get in RD.

I accounted all B+ for a regular B. Do they start getting back to people February 15?

Umichfan955, if all your B’s are 3 and A’s are 4 for all courses including honors and AP courses and you still have 3.82 and if you are INSTATe, and if you have applied for EA and studied from a decent HS, I will be absolutely surprised that you have not got admission at Umich. There must be something you have not disclosed here.

I am just as confused as you are, my counselor said she will call the admissions office if I do not hear in the next few weeks… Maybe it has something to do with the amount of OOS kids getting accepted EA? People in my school got in with 26s and 27s with much less rigorous classes

I think there must be some mistake in your UW GPA calculations. If you are in semester courses and in 12 th grade with roughly 19 courses (10 regular, all A’s) completed (end of 11 grade) with roughly 9 honors/AP courses (assume all B’s here, weighted is 4 out of 5) and weighted GPA of 4 (4 x 9 + 10 x 4)/76)x4 =4, your UW GPA can be =((3x9 (all B’s)+10x4)/76)x4 =(67/76)x4 =3.52. ACT of 26/27 with only 2 to 3 APs are OK with UMich if their UW GPA is>3.8. I am afraid that you may not have this. I do not think counselor’s call is going to help you. Either way Good luck.

I think the reason might be simply that the admissions office has not had the chance to look at some applications. They only have about 6 weeks to thoroughly go through several thousand applications. And I know at Michigan, applications are viewed by 3 separate people (at least), so maybe they just ran out of time? I like to tell myself that anyway…

I think the reason is the large number of applicants and heavy emphasis on GPA. You said you come from a school that sends the most students to u of m so I’m assuming you go to school in Ann Arbor. Those high schools (pioneer, saline, etc.) have probably at least 250 students apply to Michigan every year. That makes it very difficult to get in.

When will Michigan send out financial aid info to EA admits?

Does Umich do a type of Scholarship Day for larger scholarships? I know they already give out a sum if you’re Valedictorian/Salutatorian. I also know MSU has a ADS Competition, Wayne State has a Scholars Day, and my local university just had a scholarship day.
