General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: She was also accepted by Wharton (ED) and UChicago (EA)

Walkietalkie1 Congrats on the great news. As an accepted ED candidate at Wharton, will you be withdrawing your application from Michigan and Chicago ? ED binds you to that school.

Walkietalkie1 - Congrats on your daughter’s success! When did she apply to LSA and when did she hear back from them?

Do the kids with the “good deferral” letter with this statement also have to submit their 1st semester grades?

“We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements.”

It does say so at the bottom of the deferral letter that 1st semester grades may improve your chances, but it seems like if ALL deferred students need to submit 1st semester grades, why send out different versions of the deferral letter? Just hoping that the good deferrals had all the credentials but lacking in only 1 area and they wanted more time for additional review, and not 1st semester grades in particular. Of course this is all wishful thinking…

walkietalkie , when did your daughter apply,& was she originally deferred? also, when was she notified of her decision? congratulations?

xmaswish — Yes,my daughter had to withdraw from her EA schools and she did it in December.

lovemom — Thx. She completed the application in Oct. and received the congrats email on 22nd of Dec.

faiintx – Actually she applied Early Action. She got her notification first day when it was announced

UMichFan955 are you sure people from your school got in already with 26’s and 27’s? If you read the EA replies, no one with less than a 30 posted that they were accepted. UW GPAs were also very high 3’s at the lowest. EAs also seemed to have incredible activities. What are yours? I would think with a 28 and 3.5-3.8 you’d need incredible ones based just on what I read in the EA thread.

Anyone apply to or hear from honors college?

I did apply, but have not heard back as of today. Hoping I will hear soon. I think it has been 3 weeks since I applied.

just received my email today. I was admitted to honors—woohooo. Very excited.

Hello all. I know im kind of late with saying this but i got the “medium letter” with a 26 ACT and 3.5 gpa, in-state student. I thought I would get denied admission for sure, so i’m pretty happy i got deferred. Mine went like this:

We have carefully considered your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2013. Given our surging application volume and very strong credentials of our applicants, admission to the University is becoming increasingly competitive. As a result, your application has been deferred for a final decision until a later date.

Your application will be re-evaluated, and a final decision will be made based on how your credentials and academic achievements contribute to the composition and quality of this year’s freshman applicant pool. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early-April, 2013.

Please refer to the website Information for Deferred Students | University of Michigan Office of Admissions for FAQ’s about the admission process and what to do next. Strong fall semester or second trimester grades may enhance your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward your fall semester or second trimester grades when they become available and be sure your U-M ID (excluded for privacy) is on the material. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues, and you have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful senior year.

Sincerely,

Theodore L. Spencer
Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director

So my question is (look at previous post please), do i absolutely HAVE to send in my 1st semester grades of senior year?
They weren’t stellar… (1A+ 2A- 2B 1B- ) where my entire JUNIOR YEAR i only had one B+(in 1st semester) the entire year and the rest were ALL A’s. SO my point is i’m thinking that not sending in my first semester of senior year will benefit me because they are just average at best…, and then the last grades they will be looking at are my Amazing Junior year grades! Will doing this hurt me? Help me? Please respond. Thanks!

^Yes, you do. Even if you didn’t, it could be considered dishonest not to.

No reply for me yet.

UMich says that midyear reports are optional so I don’t see how withholding them would be dishonest.
