** Official Class of 2017 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

S is legacy, 35 ACT, 3.8gpa, 800/780 subject tests, three 5s & one 4 on APs, highly ranked national debater, sports, good recs. Yet deferred. So I wouldn’t assume deferrers are all lacking. From what I’m reading many deferreds look stronger than some of the accepteds. He’s OOS, btw.

@becca… I am in a similar position… have you heard yet?

I’m honestly shocked that I got in after seeing some of the people that got deferred. I have a 3.7 (with an upward trend & extenuating circumstances) and a 32. However, I go to a big feeder school in southeast MI; my grandma worked for U of M and when she died, a scholarship fund was established in her name; I loved my essays; and one of my teacher reccomenders is an alum, and she said she wrote me a great letter. In the end, I know I was on the lower end of qualified, and I think these things made a difference. Good luck to everyone!

Yea… that’ll help

Deferred…this sucks.

I seriously don’t want to hear the word “GPA” anymore, mine is not an accurate representation of me as a student thanks to my freshman year.

^ exactly
my gpa is crap (3.45/4.35) but thats only because ive taken the most rigorous course load available all 4 years (grades tanked sophomore year but have been on a strong upward trend). I thought I with 11 APs 8 honors and a course at a local college and a 34 act would be a strong candidate, not for a deferral…cuz im oos maybe?
(strong ecs too)

Has anyone heard today??

“2300, top 6% deferred as well, now does it make sense? @cc7878” What does this mean? Did you have a 2300 & in the top 6% of your class & got deferred…

For engineering, looks like those that got in had straight As and high test scores and were involved in Robotics or some engineering related activity at the highest level. The LSA stats are very different from engineering. I just can’t believe how many highly qualified kids were deferred from engineering.

After seeing how many people got deferred from engineering with nearly perfect stats, im starting to think they might have potentially messed up in my case (good for me though!). I mean, I have a 3.63 UW GPA, 34 ACT, the essays weren’t that great, okay extracurriculars, only good recommendations, and no legacy or hook. Glad i got in, but don’t see how i got in over some of the other people on here

@Shady4pres Are you applying to Engineering or LSA? I applied (Archaeology major) at LSA, still haven’t heard even a deferral yet.

Hey, I applied to the College of Engineering too! I feel a lot better now knowing the caliber of applicants who’ve been accepted to its programs and how thin a cross-section of the applicant pool these admits make up.

I had a lot going for me: 3.74 UW GPA, 34 ACT, 2230 SAT, 780 and 730 on top two Subject Tests, all honors and AP classes, two club presidencies (including one related to computer science), a few awards (though all except National Merit were minor), original essays that were the result of a lot of work, and one recommendation I know was great (though the other I’m not sure about). Obviously, these qualifications aren’t perfect, but I’d assumed they’d be received a little more positively than this…

LSA but I think we are hearing Monday… Has anyone heard today?

@Shady4pres Where’d you hear that we’d know Monday?

Last year people heard on sat but 2 years ago was Monday… Has anyone heard today?

hey soooo just wondering i got deferred and IM SO SAD ABOUT IT but i was just wondering…whats the good deferral letter and whats the bad one??

Yesterday I was accepted to LSA at 7:13pm! I had no idea that the decision would be sent out, so I ended up checking my email at 1:00am this morning after a Christmas party. I ran screaming through the house! For once my parents weren’t angry about it. ^.^

Anyway, the people at my school all got emails at around 7-8pm, except for one of my friends who hasn’t heard back yet. My stats aren’t incredible. I have a 28 ACT (yikes). I have absolutely no idea what Michigan looks for. I am really strongly involved in the arts outside of school and have gotten pretty involved in S&E festivals and MSVMA honors choir, along with a lot of volunteering. My essays were really good too.

Congrats to all who made it and good luck to all those deferred!

I honestly still cannot believe that I made it. When I opened the email I was like… “is this real life?”, and I still keep checking my email to make sure it’s still there and that I didn’t read it wrong. xD Super happy!
