Official Columbia University Early Decision 2016 Thread

So… I’ve been following this thread for a long time now. (I’m a fellow EDer Q_Q)

anyhow
@rchhay
you CANNOT do columbia ED and Uchicago EA!!!
I know Uchicago is not restrictive, but columbia is= = and you’re violating the terms of the ED

[Early Decision and Early Action](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Facts About Applying Early Decision or Early Action – BigFuture)

… Not sure what’s going to happen to you.

^LOL.

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person who did ED + UChicago EA. It’s not against the rules.

Edit:

Honestly, I’m a little miffed that you’re questioning my ethics, so here’s something for you to go peruse: http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/firstyear/earlydecision

I posted the wrong link= =

here:

It’s not against the rules. I did it, too. (A lot of people did Columbia + UChicago.)

^ Virtual high-five! We might be together next year!

@rcchay, lacking motivation after receiving acceptance from UChicago is completely understandable. Essentially, HPY EA applicants would approach acceptance in the same manner. Looking back, I wish I had applied to non-restrictive EA schools in addition to Columbia ED (Even though as I type that out, I feel like at an admission meeting an adcom described that process as forbidden/strongly discouraged).

At first, I thought I really wouldn’t have a problem waiting until April 1 to know where I’d be headed next year. I really am a patient guy, but I think after hearing from Columbia my anxiety will rise. Imagine this (Heck, I’m sure you all have) after a rejection from Columbia, apply to two more ivys, three more “new ivys”, usc, and nyu. NONE of those schools are easy to get into. It kind of has me thinking, if I don’t get in now, I may need to seriously widen my college search to assure an acceptance besides indiana. That scares me.

Haha, what a coincidence, I applied to Columbia and UChicago in the early round as well. I asked around at several admissions offices whether applying ED and EA was acceptable. They all said it was fine.

@mustangman:
In the link I posted, it says it is discouraged.

I know UChicago isn’t an Ivy League, but I think I would be happier there than I would be at any other school I would subsequently be applying to (including any Ivy League schools), so that’s why I wouldn’t have the motivation to submit applications. I’ve already submitted my UC applications so I’d still be waiting to hear back from 3 schools anyway.

I definitely applied early because knowing in December that I have a place to go would make me feel a lot better than waiting until April. I would definitely apply to “safeties”, but I’m one of those people who gets so anxious that I would begin to think that those safety schools would still reject me even if my stats were beyond their 75th percentile.

For whoever had the question about the stats thread… yup, it will be posted on Thursday morning. :slight_smile: If you have gotten in via Questbridge or something feel free to start posting your stats as soon as the thread goes up.

question…
Do you guys still have access to the fin aid site? And did you have any problems with it previously? I think I just got access to it yesterday. I put my pin and my birthdate in several times–even back in november–and it didn’t work. But it worked yesterday on the first try. I had no problems w/ fin aid documents by the way. Everything was turned in on time and I got a confirmation email. But I’m positive that yesterday was the first time that I was able to access the site.

[Track Your Application | Undergraduate Financial Aid and Educational Financing](Track Your Application | Columbia Financial Aid and Educational Financing)

I also applied ED and EA to UC. What @gintamaluv is false.

question: do you guys think the decision will be right there when we log in to the applyyourself account? or will it be a link on it that we will click? any speculations? just want to prepare myself for tomorrow.

I’m personally preparing for it to be right when we log-in.

That’s good question. It says your decision will be at some link, but like schemmy888 I’m preparing for it to be waiting below the picture of campus where the countdown clock currently is positioned

Perhaps it might be something to ask about in one of the “ask a current student” threads?

On a side note, if you are rejected tomorrow. Read this article: [Xavier Sala-i-Martin’s Rejection letters](Xavier Sala-i-Martin's Rejection letters) Tons of things which are rejected go on to revolutionize the world.

Is it a problem if I applied ED to Columbia and EA to Michigan? I had no idea that we couldn’t apply to ea schools…

@Saahil. There is nothing wrong with applying to EA schools along with your ED application to Columbia. From Columbia’s perspective, since you applied ED, if they want you, then you have no choice but to go there.

Also, Saahil, I don’t know if you live in Michigan, but I think there’s a state school exception. I personally applied early to UMD under that assumption.

hm hey guys, just another ed-er joining the convo late :slight_smile:
I feel mad antsy with the results going up in

24 hours!!! and 15 mins.
