Official Columbia University Early Decision 2016 Thread

The suspense and apprehension is practically tangible in this forum! So do accepted applicants get whole entire packages like mustangman’s link said or are the only doing it electronically now?

Less than a day! So anxious! I will be monitoring my computer tomorrow…

I think the packages are mailed out after the online decision is posted. They need to send you tons of info that they probably can’t stuff into any kind of online system quite yet.

Has anyone else been reading those comments on the Bwog article…it sounds like a lot of people don’t like the extremely stressful environment at Columbia. Makes me a tad bit nervous. On the other hand, the type of people who are more likely to be posting lots of comments on forum’s like that are the people who are unhappy because all of the happy people aren’t motivated enough to talk about it.

I agree with your second assessment. I don’t think you can truly gauge it until you’re there. I know the magnet program I’m in is known for high stress level, but I’ve personally never felt particularly stressed… that is until now XD

I think the accepted students get packages. They come with t-shirts, right? So, that makes me think all accepted students receive packages. Then, don’t deferred students have to imply their interest for reconsideration? That makes me think they’d receive letters. Finally, the majority. The rejected. I don’t think you receive a letter unless it is by request, and why wouldn’t you request one so you can rub it in twenty years from now when you’ve perfected the invisible cloak.

Just read through the ED 2009 thread. So depressing. It looks like besides the few recruited athletes, odds look slim. Of the regular posters, very few were accepted. I would throw out twenty five or thirty of us are regularly contributing to this thread… maybe eight or ten will make it (believe me, though, I know that is not a legitimate method of chancing).

Free t-shirts? So maybe I should reconsider plans to travel to buy one…

Hah, mustangman, you have a certain way of killing my optimism. It’s probably a good thing, though.

I was wondering about that mustangman…I wonder what the acceptance rate of frequent posters on the College confidential threads is. I bet its like 25%. Someone last year calculated it for preceding years but I don’t remember where I was reading about that.

I haven’t found a number for this yet, but what’s the percentage of deferred students who later go on to become admits?

SOOOOOORRY! Yeah @brandnew3773, in last year’s results thread, I recall something around 30-33%. It would be another thing to look at admit rates for those of us who have wasted the last month poring over the CC threads.

Yeah great question neiro6, I also am extremely curious to know that figure. DEFERRED ED ------> ACCEPTED RD somebody find those statistics!!!

How would you guys feel if you were deferred? I can’t imagine having to wait another 5 months to figure out where I am going!

It would feel just as bad if not worse than a rejection to me, I think. At least rejection you can go through your “mourning” and get on with your other apps. Having Columbia linger in the background would drive me nuts.

@mustangman, you said the rejected don’t get a letter? does this mean im already rejected because in the email notifying me of my pin number it said this
“The Columbia community is committed to environmental responsibility; in keeping with this commitment, we will provide some admissions decisions only online, not via regular mail. You may request that a copy of your decision letter be mailed to you after you receive it online; further instructions will be available when you check your decision. We plan to post all decisions here on Thursday, December 8, 2011, after 5:00pm (Eastern Time).”

Seriously Brandnew, if you got a likely letter, then you will not get deferred, much less rejected.

^I agree with neiro about agreeing with you (part of what you said anyway). :’)

Anyway, just filled out the template. Thanks, neiro!

So much agreement! xD

@pirates2 Nope, he means that you will not automatically get a letter if you are rejected, only if you request one. Everyone got that part you quoted… well, at least I did.

oh okay phew, thanks @neiro6 I hope everyone got that… maybe i’m just reading into things too much

Haha panther I know but I can’t help worrying about it. I mean on the off chance that I was completely expecting to be accepted and then I got denied…that would be even more brutal because it would completely blindside me!

Today, my favorite soccer team, F.C. Basel [Switzerland] beat the odds by winning over Manchester United and kicking Man Utd. out of the Champions League. Tomorrow, I hope to pull off a similar feat by getting into Columbia. fingers crossed
